They also injured 27additional students during this attack. The two suspects later committed suicide. This attack was considered one of the deadliest mass murders committed on an American high school campus until the Virginia Tech shooting in April 16, 2007. These incidents sparked debate over gun control laws, and the availability of firearms to public within the United States. Also, gun violence involving juveniles is one of the current topics on daily news and television.
“Gun Violence in Philadelphia”. In recent years the city of Philadelphia has become a war zone due gun violence. Innocent bystanders and police officers are all becoming the victims. Even though we have the right to bear arms, who will we blame for gun violence in Philadelphia? Innocent people are dying and the guns laws aren't changing.
“Gun Control: Understanding the Misunderstood” It can be overwhelming to turn on the local news station or flip idly into your Sunday morning paper only to be bombarded with, “So-and-so killed this many with this weapon.” Oh, what a travesty America, how could this have happened? When a sadistic sociopath makes their big break in the world of disinformation usually, they bring about the most discussed question of the past few decades with them. Should guns be controlled? This question is interesting for the fact that in every sense of it, all it takes to get the answer you want is a very local interaction involving a firearm. Craig R. Whitney does a fantastic job in looking into the homeland patrol of guns and ammunition but fails to look at the entirety of the situation.
The results of this are sometimes tragic, as shown by the recent Sandy Hook school shooting, in which scores of innocent elementary school children were murdered by a mentally ill individual who was able to access firearms. Other problems include criminals purchasing firearms to help them commit robberies or engage in illegal activities. One only has to watch the nightly news to see the results of misuse of firearms and their often fatal consequences, and the question of what can be done to curb the violence often
A large number of gun-related injuries/deaths are committed by members of society that have untreated disorders and others that simply neglect firearm safety rules and existing gun-control laws. Unfortunately, many deaths and injuries occur before anyone realizes any mental health issues, depression, or drug abuse is occurring. These problems are alarming, and the improper use of firearms causes more than 35,000 people to die each year in the United States. The evidence of improper gun use is staggering, the United States does have one of the highest murder rates in the world and is home to a tremendous number of guns; but people kill people, and the solution to the problem does not lie in more
This article opens my eyes and shows me that America may be going in the wrong direction to stop gun control. This is very useful because I’ll be able to use this as what Gun Control should not come to. Another use of this article will allow me to use a pathos appeal because readers will sympathize with a young boy being suspended from school for simply drawing a picture. Agresti, James D. “Gun Control.” Just Facts Foundation 10 June 1999. 21 Oct.
Allowing faculty to carry firearms can have an effect on mass shootings at schools. On 1999 in Columbine fifth teen people were killed, in Minnesota nine people were murdered, in Virginia thirty three were killed, and in Connecticut twenty eight were murdered. Allowing faculty to carry firearms would greatly cut the amount of murders that were committed. Trained faculty can protect children and themselves, while allowing more time for the authorities to arrive at the
Let Teachers Carry Firearms on School Grounds School shootings are horrific events that have been happening way too often recently in our society. These events are usually caused by either: a student who has been bullied and pushed too far to the point of feeling that killing people is a good idea, a person with mental problems, or an adult wanting to display an act of terrorism. However, in recent years, schools have learned from these events and have taken the initiative in upgrading school security. They have added bulletproof glass on doors, keypads, and armed student resource officers. One thing that could be the deciding factor for whether a student or staff member lives or dies.
Columbine Massacre Tuesday, April 20, 1999 at 11:19 AM, a witness heard Eric Harris yell, “Go! Go!” (Wikipedia). Two teenage student of Columbine high, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, arrived at school with an arsenal full of weapons ready to reap revenge on all those who had done them wrong. After the hour-long rampage and the chaos was over twelve students and a teacher were dead, twenty-four others were wounded and the two shooters had committed suicide. This massacre has provoked much debate into the issues of gun control and availability of firearms in the United States, as well as high school cliques, bullying and the role of violent movies and video games in American society.
I agree with the plan that President Obama is trying to implement with more gun controls and I agree because there have been many disasters and killings because of some stupid people. There have been shootings in theaters, schools, like pretty much
