Assess the view that global warming is inevitable no matter what we do Global warming is the rise in the average temperature of the earth's atmosphere. Over the last 100 years, it has been discovered that the world temperatures have gotten warmer and warmer. The present temperatures have gone up by 0.6 (degrees Celsius) over the last century. There are numerous causes of global warming, some natural and others man-made. The natural causes include the release of greenhouse gasses such as methane (CH4). Man-made causes probably cause the most damage. One of the main ones in discussion is pollution. Pollution can be of many different forms for example burning fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are fuels made of organic matter such as oil or coal. When these fossil fuels are burned they give off another green house gas called carbon dioxide. Now we look at the ways in which global warming damages the world we live in. Global warming, as mentioned above is the rise in the average temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. What does this rise in temperature actually do? Global warming is melting the poles and consequently, sea levels across the world are raised. This in turn brings about floods which have been known to take the lives of many around the world. Mountain glaciers are also disappearing and this leads to water shortages and flooding throughout the year in these particular areas. Also, deserts are spreading as a result of increased temperatures and minimal rainfall meaning there is less fertile land for farmers in neighbouring countries. The above statements now beg the question, what can we do to end global warming? It is clearly a major threat to our planet but is it inevitable? Can we reduce it if we can’t end it all together? I would argue that especially in this century, it is inevitable. There have been many efforts to try and reduce the emissions of greenhouse gasses
