Doc 3 contradict doc 1 and 2. However, the source of doc 3 is questionable since the observer could not over see everything that is happening in the working environment at all time. Doc 7 and 9 showed the unsanitary condition in the slum area. Because the cities attracted immigrant who seek jobs, cites are often over populated. With so many people live in close quarter, waste accumulated overtime and polluted the
Many immigrants had to deal with poor living and working conditions (OK). Immigrants were paid low wages, so they had to live in tenements (Document 1). Tenements were crowded, unsanitary, and unsafe apartments that were very small (OK). Diseases spread quickly due to the overcrowding (OK). They were unsafe because there were no regulations on how they were built.
Even though unions had moved to improve the rights, justice and conditions of the workplace, it was not surprising that many workers were sacked for simply joining the unions. In the cities, many of the people worked in factories. Some employers and factory owners treated their employees well; they paid them above the minimum wage with good working conditions but in other cases, the workers were being treated like slaves. The temperature of the factories would rise in hotter seasons, sometimes rising above 40ºC, working between 8am to 6om, working to and fro work. Inquiries for better working conditions or wages were dismissed and so were the workers.
The Fashion Industry and Sweatshops The Fashion Industry and Sweatshops Example of a sweatshop A sweatshop is a factory or workshop, especially in the clothing industry, where manual workers are employed at very low wages for long hours and under poor conditions. Sweatshops are often illegal, sometimes hidden factories so that they avoid having to implement legal regulations that govern working conditions, wages and benefits. They often employ the most vulnerable of workers – immigrants (often illegal), young women and the undereducated. Where the working environment is considered to be unacceptably difficult or dangerous and where the workers are exploited. Sweatshops may exist in any country but are more commonly found in LEDC’s.
Whether it was to try to help their parents make more money, or to feed themselves, they would work. Some of the problems the workers would have were the lack of time and of money. They worked under very poor conditions, and did not have many privileges. Incidents like the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory had major effects on the way the escapes in buildings were designed. First of all, the extremely crowded housing estate gives us a feeling of claustrophobia and oppression, which is accentuated during the scenes that take place in the characters’ flats. Another characteristic of life in the Banlieue we can see in this film is that the people who lives there does not have much to do, it is always the same aimless daily routine and the youth struggle to entertain themselves. As we can see in La Haine, Hubert is the only one who has a job with his gym (before it burned down) and all the other characters are unemployed and seem to have delinquent behavior. We can also see this feeling of boredom through the characters’ meaningless conversations and the scenes when the three boys are walking around in the Banlieue, where there are many other youths just standing around and talking to each other, which most of the time puts them under police scrutiny. Moreover, the feeling of rejection from the rest of the society is well demonstrated in the scene where a news crew wants to interview the main characters from their van.
The earning of the workers even after inflation have risen by just a small margin, making the living standards of the workers low, some of them unable to even provide for their families while others stay with their parents even after employment. Other workers have faced and met their death at their places of wok for lack of proper precautions especially those working under dangerous conditions like construction sites. Exploitation has moved to a whole new level where safety standards have been totally disregarded and workers have been left t work in conditions not suitable to work in. The safety equipments that the firms invest in are cheap and unsafe which they acquire so that their profits margins remain high. They on the other hand cannot fail to work because they have people looking up to them to provide and support.

I live in New York City. Some days I get so frustrated with constantly seeing all these immigrants coming to take our jobs. It’s hard enough for us white Americans to find and maintain a decent home without having to share the search with the constant swarms of immigrants. I work in a dark, dirty, crowded, hot factory for such a degradingly low wage, but we take what we can get. It’s getting difficult to keep jobs now because the immigrants agree to work in such slums for less pay than we get.
With no medical attention to the workers who become injured due to the heavy machinery, life in there can be hectic. A couple of ways people can fix these issues is by demanding medical attention, and a better wage per hour as whole and not as an individual. This
