The ethical dilemma faced by Antonio. The ethical dilemma that Antonio faces is whether he should alert someone to the impending fraud that Empress Luxury Lines plans to perpetrate upon the insurance company or whether he should follow the lead of others in the company and allow the insurance fraud scheme to take place. Antonio must consider what will happen based on the choice of action that he takes. His actions will not only affect him and his job security but also that of his subordinate Kevin Pfeiffer. Antonio understands that his company is having financial difficulties and blowing the whistle could potentially hurt a lot of people that work there. Should he first consider all the stakeholders in this situation, e.g., employees of Empress Luxury lines, stockholders and customers of Empress Luxury Lines as well as those of the insurance company, or should he only consider the shareholders and employees of the financially troubled Cruise Line? A secondary aspect of this ethical dilemma that Antonio faces is if he should just let Kevin call the insurance company which will, essentially, make him the whistle blower and thus the one to face the ramifications. He has already shown character by refusing to involve himself, an action that garnered him praise from Antonio. The character of the organizational climate at Luxury Cruise Lines seems to be one of seeing the bottom line as the most important thing and they seem to have no qualms about using questionable practices to better that bottom line. This climate is derived from the perception that the employees have of their organizational culture from the top down making it a difficult thing for Antonio to change because he already knows what to expect when he brings this dilemma to his superiors in the management chain.
