Analysis On Bilingual Ballots George Wills’ “Bilingual Ballots Mock Our System” first appeared in a news article from The Washington Post. In this essay, Wills’ aims to state his opinion as to why bilingual ballots should be prohibited and done away with. He intends to persuade the reader that the United States rules of law and that our countries national identity is becoming “attenuated” by illegal immigration. That these bilingual ballots are bypassing our federal laws and in a way, these ballots are influencing illegal immigration. Wills’ claims that the federal government's chief law enforcement official might need a refresher course on federal law pertaining to legal immigrants.
Biased or Unbiased In the essay “Conspiracy against Assimilation” by Robert J. Samuelson, he explains the two proposals that are being debated on how to deal with America’s immigration problems. The first takes a harsh approach by making being here illegally a felony, which would make it extremely difficult for illegal immigrants to stay here and eventually they’ll have no other choice but to go back to where they came from. The second is to provide work permits for those who would usually sneak in, this way there would be no shortages in unskilled workforce. Samuelson disagrees with both of the proposals and proposes a different approach to solving our immigration issues. As Samuelson explains the two proposals and suggests new ideas, he mainly uses the Latino (Hispanic) population as an example to support his arguments.
“Imagination… can lead to moral clarification.”(1) Savant believes that we must try to imagine why an illegal immigrant chooses to come illegally before we make a judgment call. He goes on to tell two stories of two different, yet similar illegal immigrants and their (though illegal choice) morally correct choice. He closes in stating that “The survival and growth of our own civilization may well depend upon our imagining better.”(2). In other words, to achieve a better society we must imagine a better society. What Savant fails to provide in his article though, is both sides of immigration.
However, many people in our countries are in favor of this immigration law of having no open borders and believe that only political refugees have a right to enter in the states which I find to be unreasonable. The effectiveness of this article is that there laws of immigration are unconstitutional and unfair. We need to have more options meaning different laws in place to make life easier for immigrants to go and come as they please but with some stipulations put in place. The author states in this article that he believes that immigrations laws should be legalized. That if states have required open borders available in there state then people should be allow to come and go as they are pleased.
Constitution. The S.B. 1070 disrupts the priorities and resources of federal enforcement that focus on aliens who pose a threat to national security or public safety. They also claim that the federal government has preeminent authority to regulate immigration matters and that the enforcement of the Arizona law is counterproductive to the national immigration policy and it will cause detention and harassment of authorized visitors, immigrants, and citizens who do not carry their identification documents. S.B.1070 will certainly interfere in essential foreign policy and national security interests by disrupting the United States' relationship with Mexico and other
He continues his claim that the works of well-known authors such as Shakespeare and Hemingway should be banned from American Culture. Tony Alamo’s belief to use censorship as a shield and tool to protect young minds from disintegrating exhibits narrow-mindedness. The first reason Tony Alamo exhibits narrow-mindedness because he states, “Children and young adults in their innocence, often cannot distinguish between good, morally upright concepts and morally unjustified, wrong perverted ideas” (Alamo). What Mr. Alamo is implying is that children and young individuals are not intelligent and can’t make a distinction between good and bad choices. Mr. Alamo needs to understand that children’s brains are like sponges soaking up water.
Patrice Foster Professor Hayaud-Din Government 2301-2406 Summer I 2012 Extra Credit Abolishing The Exclusionary Rule Word Count: Patrice Foster The Exclusionary Rule The Exclusionary Rule is a senseless rule. We should get rid of it and the police and prosecutors should be able to use the evidence even if it’s obtained in violation of the rule, because we could potentially let criminals go to satisfy this rule. This rule is so full of controversy, that it is hard to support. How can we as citizens embrace this rule? A rule that does so little to protect the law as it was made.
In a debate regarding illegal immigrants Mitt Romney and President Obama had different opinions toward the issue that had the same outcome. President Obama suggested that illegal immigrants should “get to the back of the line for citizenship”. Romney in the other hand said that it would be nice if they “self-deported” them self, and “lined up back home for legal re-entry to America”. The question here is not who has the better idea, but it’s whether or not this “line” is even possible. Both suggestions seem to be ineffective since most of the immigrants are ineligible for a citizenship, and have no chances of re-entry in the first place.
Plyler v. Doe is a revision to the Texas education law to withhold from local school districts state funds for educating children of illegal immigrants, together with Texas v. Certain Named and Unnamed Alien Child. The Supreme Court decided to deny this revision, their reasoning was that illegal immigrants and their children, are people "in any ordinary sense of the term" and, therefore, are protected by the Fourteenth Amendment. By denying the children’s rights to education the state was being unconstitutional. Texas could not prove that the regulation was needed to serve a "compelling state interest," the Court struck down the law (Plyler v. Doe,
Running Head: BORDER PORTECTION AND IMMIGRATION Border Protection and Immigration Eric R. Kloss Excelsior College Border Protection and Immigration Americans live in a country where freedom is taken for granted, and not appreciated. Most Americans do not know the cost of freedom and are unwilling to contribute to keeping America free. Americans forget the price that so many have paid to keep America free. I feel that immigration and border security is one of the main issues associated with terrorists and the smuggling of illegal goods, and equipment into America. Changes must be enforced instantly in order to stop this illegal entry into America.
