It is extremely important to educate young children in the United States. Today’s delicate economy depends on the hands of a skilled and prepared American population. Current norms and laws restrict a big part of talent and an opportunity to better the economy as well as discriminating a group of population all at the same time. According to the Code of Ethics of the National Association of Social Workers, Social workers should not practice, condone, facilitate, or collaborate with any form of discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, political belief, religion, immigration status, or mental or physical disability(NASW Code of Ethics). Why should they pay for the decisions that their parents took among them? If that was the case of the American belief system, every American child being born in American ground but with immigrant parents would not be able to get American citizenship, but to the contrary, this country is enriched with the many groups of people that constitutes the American population. The California Dream Act, a bill that promises to open state financial aid to students who meet AB 540 qualifications, has been vetoed by Governor Schwarzenegger two years in a row. "While I do not believe that undocumented children should be penalized for the acts of their parents, this bill would penalize students here legally by reducing the financial aid they rely on to allow them to go to college and pursue their dreams." - Governor Schwarzenegger.
