Dorian Gray vs. Harvey “Two-Face” Dent Dorian Gray and Harvey “Two-Face” Dent are alike and different in many ways. Dorian Gray is the title character in The Picture of Dorian Gray. Harvey “Two-Face” Dent is a villain in Batman: the Dark Knight. Each man has a distinct, unforgettable appearance, although in very different ways. Gray is a “[…] brainless beautiful creature […]” (Wilde 2), Two-Face is not pleasant-looking, due to an unfortunate event; “[…] a vengeful mob boss hurled acid in his face…” (DC Universe) scarring his face for life. Both had girlfriends while living as good people, but once each man turned bad, their girlfriends died young and tragically. Both men also have different experiences concerning the law; Two-Face used to be a district attorney and knew the laws, while Dorian did not have any knowledge of the law. Both men became murderers, but their motives and methods were distinctly different. Dorian Gray was a beautiful man and he never thought anything of it until the day he met Lord Harry Wotton. When the two met Dorian was getting his portrait painted by Basil who is friends with Harry. While getting his portrait painted Harry talks to Dorian about how “[…] youth is the only thing worth having” (Wilde 11) and that “beauty is a form of genius […]” (11). This starts Dorian to thinking how beautiful he really is and that he wishes he will never grow old. When he sees the portrait that Basil has painted he says he wishes the portrait will grow old instead of him and he would give his soul to have it that way (Wilde 15). This is when he starts to turn evil, when he ‘sells his soul’. Two-Face on the other hand, starts as an average-looking district
