Principles for implementing duty of care in health social care or children’s and young people’s settings 1.1 Explain what it means to have a duty of care in own work role. In my work role, duty of care means putting my residents first, following their wishes/choices or making best interest decisions, making sure their dignity is kept and they are treated with respect and maintain their independence at all times and keeping them safe from harm and hazards. I am able to do this by following my code of practice and policies and procedures. I.e. if I was going to give a resident a bath my duty of care would be to ensure the resident got to the bathroom and into the bath safely i.e.
If you decided to delegate the bed bath to the unregulated care provider, what instructions should you give him? I should assess first Mrs. Appleby’s situation and condition before delegating the bath to unregulated care provider. I have to assess how stable Mrs. Appleby and what associated risk could be develop if bath will be provided to her. I have to determine that the unregulated care provider is competent to do the bath safely by asking her to do return demonstration .I will also instruct her to use lifting device like a Hoyer Lift or a lifting sheet to move or lift her. I will instruct her not to drag a person's body along bed sheets to prevent friction and shear since she has already developed a red area over her sacrum.
UV30475 Apply stone therapy massage Describe salon requirements for preparing yourself, the client and work area for stone therapy treatment. You would prepare yourself by making sure your hair is neatly tied back, you have no jewellery, a clean professional uniform, have good personal hygiene and you are wearing light day make up and that you are positioned correctly to avoid repetitive strain injuries to your back. You need to position yourself correctly whether you are sitting or standing making sure your weight is evenly distributed and to ensure your positioning delivers appropriate techniques, prevents any injuries and gives optimum treatment results. You would prepare your client by asking them to remove all jewellery and piercings and all appropriate clothing is removed before starting the treatment, by making sure their privacy and modesty is protected by using a large towel or blanket to cover them, making sure the client is comfortable, relaxed and positioned correctly to get maximum benefit from the treatment. Before you carry out a treatment you need to sanitize your work area making sure all tools and stones you are to use are disinfected/sterilized, all towels are clean dry and unused, you need to make sure you have the correct lighting for each individual treatment, you have a height adjustable chair for yourself and that the couch is at the correct height also.
Agree with the individual how privacy will be maintained during personal care. We agree on the level of privacy he needs also by talking, I ask him when or if he wants me to leave the bathroom so he can have some privacy or hold a towel up while he washes. Outcome 2 Be able to provide support for personal care safety. 1. Support individual to understand the reasons for hygiene and safety precautions.

CU2637 Support Individuals to meet personal care needs 1.1 Encourage an individual to communicate their needs, preferences and personal beliefs affecting their personal care I arrived at the service user’s house, removed key from wall key safe and opened the door. I walked over to the service user who was still in bed and addressed her politely and informed her that I was there to support her. I asked the service user if she wanted a body wash and she said yes I would like a body wash. 1.2 Establish the level and type of support and individual needs for personal care Each service user requires different levels of assistance for their personal care. Some service users require me to wash, dry and dress them as well as preparing meals and feeding them, whereas others are able to undress, wash their own hair and bodies then dry and dress themselves with little assistance. 1.3 Agree with the individual how privacy will be maintained through personal care I always ensure that doors are closed where possible or blinds drawn so that other colleagues or service users cannot gain view and curtains are shut so that other passer’s by cannot obtain view and towels or covers are used to hide their genital areas.
I also offered the service user choice of using the commode or the toilet and she chose the commode. I and the service user agreed the service user’s preferences for me to give him some time to himself whilst using the commode and when having his bath how he can be supported by me at intervals when he requires any support with washing his hands and transferring back from the commode as well as with washing his back and feet which he found difficult to reach. After establishing with the service user the level of care and preferences he preferred , I proceeded with the personal care. 2.1 Support the individual to understand the reasons for hygiene and safety precautions 2.2 Use protective equipment, protective clothing and hygiene techniques to minimise the risk of infection 2.5 Ensure safe disposal of waste materials I then discussed with the service user why it was important in terms of infection control for him to wash his hands before assisting him and then using an apron and gloves to support him with his personal care. I then asked the service user how having a bath
Last week, when I moved and assisted a service user to use the toilet, I ensured the way was free of any hindrances and objects that might cause the service user to fall. HAZARDS Hazard can be described as anything that has a potential to cause harm. A couple of days ago, when I moved and assisted Mrs. M, (a service user) to have her bath, I ensured the bathroom is free from any hazard such as slippery floor, sharps that might cause her to slip and get injured. RISK ASSESSMENT This can be described as the systematic process of evaluating the potential risks that may be involved in an activity or undertaking. When I took charge of caring for Mr. K, I identified all the hazards, evaluated them and found appropriate ways to eliminate or control them.
