Diary Task Unit 3 Task 3 Donna Lee It was snack time at the nursery and me and the rest of the staff decided we was going to throw an activity linked in with snack time that would provide a sense of enjoyment for the children as well as improve their social skills and teach them about healthy food. We named the activity fruit box. The activity started with lots of various types of fruits layed out on a table and four different boxes behind the table each coloured differently. The colours of the boxes were yellow orange red and green. What the children had to do was pick a fruit and decide which box it belonged in for example child x said that fruit 1 belonged in box three because it was a strawberry and it was red. This carried on until all the fruits were placed into the boxes and then as a team we all worked out which ones were right and which ones were wrong. The ones that were right stayed where they were but the ones that were wrong we took out of the boxes and figured out where they actually belonged. How we did this is by looking through a book of all the children’s favourite children’s TV show characters for example the telletubies and we matched the colour of the characters to the colour of the fruit. For example the red telletubie (PO) is red so we matched it to the red strawberry and that way we knew it was in the right box. The children will learn from this activity by knowing that there are a wide range of different colours and what colours match what. They will also learn by knowing that fruits are healthy, good for them and are a good subject of socialising through play. They will also learn more about healthy eating and will know that if they work together and improve their social skills they can complete a game correctly and have fun at the same time.
