PLEASE REVISE. The controversial death of George Reeves The man who played superman from the classic series has been as mystery due to the lack of evidentiary support to confirm if his death was a murder of an unjustified murder. There have been many books written about his death; stating if it was a murder, others say suicide. Even a movie has been made about the tragic incident. There have been debates about his death and some even still continue today. Both sides have remarkable evidence supporting each theory. However, no one is sure of which argument is impeccable. “On June 16th, 1959 at approximately 1:59 a.m. George Reeves was found dead with a bullet to his head. When the police arrived at the scene they had verified that Reeves’ death was a suicide.” (The Unsolved Death and Mysterious Afterlife of Televion’s “Superman”…George Reeves!) A theory is that George had an affair with a married woman by the name of Toni Lanier who was married to an executive of a MGM producing company. His name was E.J. Mannix. The affair later ended and Reeves became severely depressed and shot himself. Was it out of love, or something more? Suspicion arose why Reeves may have killed himself. The fact that he was fornicating with an executive’s wife could ruin his reputation if his secret got out. Companies and big producers may not want to cast him in large films or sponsor him on any logos. Another possibility is that he may have been in love with Ms. Lanier and when she ended the seven year relationship; he was devastated and shot himself. Jett 2 Reeves first appeared on Superman in 1952 and was a role model to children of all ages. Reeves would do stunts and children would mimic what Reeves portrayed to be, essentially a stereotypical superhero. The act of flying, and fighting off bad guys.
