Jennifer M. Fontana “Jim Hendrix” History of Rock and Roll The biggest misconception about Jim Hendrix is how he died. He died in London. His body was laid to rest at Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton, Washington. He died on September 18, 1970. The initial reports concerning his death insinuated a drug overdose. If someone were asked why Jim Hendrix died the common response would be drug overdose, a typical rockers death. I thought the same thing. But what really happened is even better. Someone had phoned the ambulance from the pay phone across the street from the hotel. The ambulance had to phone the police because they didn’t know who it was. There was so much red wine and through up everywhere. He was dead on arrival to St. Mary’s Abbot Hospital in Kensington/Chelsea section of London at 12:45 p.m. On September 18,1970, Monika Dennemann and Eric Burdon have had many versions of their story that recounts Jimi Hendrix’s last hours. I, however, believe that Monika killed Jimi out of jealousy of his relationship with Devon and other woman. She was talking to friend after his death and wrote a book later saying how her and Jim spoke about marriage. Jimi was the biggest free love free spirit. Devon was said to be the closest thing he had to a girlfriend. I also believe that she killed him because there was said to have been a towel with substantial amounts of red wine and all over the sheets and Jimi. His blood alcohol level was only equivalent to 2 glasses of wine. The amount around him and mixed with his vomit was said to be around 2 bottles. When he played for the Winter Festival for Peace he couldn’t perform because he was so high. Even though he did do drugs as most of the rockers in his days. He was not known as an addict. Even though it was so easy to get caught up in that kind of persona. Fans were giving musicians drugs for free to look cool and to have bragging rights. Dealers were giving musicians drugs for free to boost sales and for favors later. Jimi Hendrix was heard of turning down drug dealers that wanted to stash drugs in his band equipment for touring overseas. Musicians also turned to drugs because of the monotony of playing the same songs night after night. It was also easy to do with so much spare time. These issues are things that expand over generational as to how promising musicians loose their lives getting caught up in the rock and roll lifestyle.
