Topic: Cultural bias in IQ testing At all levels of education, there is great concern about the low performance of racially and linguistically diverse students on standardized tests. A wealth of argument surrounds intelligence tests , specifically given the consistently lower performance of minority groups. Tests have been parts and puzzle of nearly all educational system worldwide. It’s truly a fundamental part of the teaching and learning process. Many research have been conducted to enquire into the cultural biasness in IQ testing which confirms of its thriving existence in the educational fraternity. Critics have argued that most of these tests are culturally biased. All may agree that we dwell in a culturally diverse world and no two cultures can be similar. One dictates the other, hence there is always unique differences amongst them. So the bigger question is whether IQ testing is fair in consideration of the vast differences amongst cultures. Cultural bias means that the wording of the questions and the experience on which the questions are based are more familiar to members of some social group than to others. For example consider this question from an older version of the Wechsler Intelligent scale for children, “What would you do if you are sent to buy a loaf of bread and the grocer said, he did not have any more? If you think the answer is “ Go to another store” you are correct according to the developers of the Wechsler scale. However when 200 minority children were asked the same question, 61 said they would go home. Asked to explain their answers, they gave reasonable explanations there
