NCLB set forth a certain criteria to be met, but allowed the states to determine how they would accomplish it. Therefore, each state handles assessment and accountability differently. This makes it hard to show success or failure of the programs. Supporters and critics alike can cite research that supports their opinion. My opinion of NCLB is it is flawed, developmentally inappropriate, ill funded, ←and→ leaving more students, teachers, ←and→ schools behind than ever before because The tests have turned into the objective of classroom instruction rather than the measure of teaching ←and→ learning.

Payne stated that students should learn the “hidden rules” of the middle class from their educators so that they have another set of rules to use if they choose to do so. Impoverished students, compared to students of middle or upper class, often have a lack of proper funding, thus, a lack of appropriate resources to use in their education. Due to this, they are often unprepared for school, not having the money to purchase books and other educational tools. Both authors realize this, but argue that the responsibility lies on different shoulders. Payne states that impoverished students face inequality at school, insinuating that the school should be responsible for helping to provide for these students so that they can have a better education.
Dear Mr. Kaufman, Georgia Gwinnett College has really developed from the biased opinions of the society that surrounds this vicinity. I’m merely writing to input my opinion of the Freedom of Expression policy that I come to agree and disagree with. I agree that a policy should be grounded within a public school but I disagree how our individual freedom gets restricted. The timing for the policy is very absurd because not all students are aware of the policy. This makes it harder for them to go around their busy schedule to accommodate a session of freedom that should be expressed at anytime of ones will.
the time, money, and energy the NEA puts into issues like same sex marriage, abortions, homosexuality, womens rights, etctra, is excessive when we have students graduating who have great difficult with reading or struggle with basic math skills. the NEA's powerful hold on education today leaves them mostly responsible for the holes we have in our education. it is not only the faulty curriculum, but most importantly the failing teachers who the NEA hides, defends, supports, and so on; sticking by their constant cry of not enough pay, however is that an excuse to pass students who should have been held back years ago? the most disturbing problem with the NEA is when they brag about the success of their million dollar programs that are supposed to increase reading and writing skills, math skills, and overall education; the issue occurs when barely a quarter of students show positive results. how can anyone boast and petition funds for programs that are not
Standards-Based Assessments Standards-based assessment is the primary outcome of standards-based reform. Well-designed tests ensure that all students have the knowledge and skills that they need to succeed at the next level. By using multiple and diverse sources, teachers can be certain that they have enough evidence to assess student learning. Understandably, the new way of teaching has had some teachers in a quandary as to the best method for panning lessons. Since the author is not currently teaching in the
Block Scheduling Educators are constantly looking for new ways to improve the American educational system. Teachers are increasingly frustrated that the traditional and even the modern teaching strategies are not working. There seems to be many initiatives to develop new instruments to expand students' knowledge base. Some educators are considering the practicality of this idea through what is called block scheduling. Block scheduling provides students with more instructional time, less homework, and a varied of instruction.
It is the schools responsibility to be able to provide good enough teachers, who can prepare these students. In order to have a good education, there must be qualified teachers there to teach and prepare students effectively. Bauerlein questions schools curriculums and the way they are presenting “complex texts” (Bauerlein) to the students; “The more high school teachers place complex texts on the syllabus and concoct slow, deliberate reading exercises for students to complete, the more they will inculcate the habit” (Bauerlein). Students learn what their teachers tell them they have to learn, without knowing the effects the teachings will have on them whether good or bad. That is why schools providing qualified teachers are so important
Communication is Key Paulo Freire’s wrote about how both students and teachers need to communicate more in order to improve the quality of learning environment. This excerpt also seems to be directed towards all teachers. “Education is suffering from narration sickness.” (Para 1) Freire gets straight to the point with that sentence as his thesis statement. He explains how teachers are “motionless” and that they need to spice up their teaching style. Good communication is the way to resolve issues with the way students are being taught.
