Assignment 2.1: The Public Needs To Know – Revised Version Parul Patel Instructor: Mrs. Shannon O’Stricker English 115 May 13, 2012 The Metro Regional Nutrition Services Program (MRNSP) is a community outreach program that takes place through the dedicated work of our caring volunteers who want to help those in need. Our mission is to show needy families and individuals that there are local people willing to offer a helping hand in times of hardship. Volunteers at MRNSP demonstrate this mission everyday by volunteering their time to provide home visits, assessments, referrals to available resources and services, and assistance with necessities such as food and clothing. Through our volunteer social workers we are able to collaborate
For my community service project I chose to work with Chick-fil-A . Every year they host a Trunk-or-Treat event in the parking lot which consists of having local businesses have the trunk of their car decorated like a front door. The kids dress up for Halloween then go trunk to trunk picking up goodies, candies, and little toys that the individual businesses are handing out. The kids enjoy this event because it is like they get two Halloweens, instead of just one. The kids who participate also get a free kids meal from Chick-fil-A, and who passes up a free meal.
The school counselors are acting more like social workers. Each school district is required by law to provide transportation to and from school for homeless students. “In the Washtenaw County school district they spent $5,234 for taxi cab fare for homeless students in October of 2010, in October of 2011 they have spent $9,223” (Evans, 2011). They are not only supplying transportation at all the schools in the country, but they are also supplying breakfast, lunch (as these maybe the only meals they eat), backpacks filled with school supplies, but now they are supplying clothes as well. I know this to be true because my family has donated many items to the local school districts in our area.
With help from churches, community groups, corporations and many others, they are giving new hope to those in need. The funding sources would be financed by a revolving fund called “The Fund for Humanity.” Also comes from the new owners’ no-interest house payments. Under the trained supervision, individuals, corporations and groups, homeowners and volunteers build these homes. Also, with the help of Community Partnerships such as American Legion, African-American Baptist Mission Collaboration which is a partnership of five Baptist communities that represents more than 40,000 churches and more than 10 million Christians nationwide, and has grown into a strong partnership with Willow Creek Community Church that has a desire to help families in need. In addition, there are many Corporate Partnerships as well.
In 2011 the company had a total of 1,884 volunteer hours. Some of the organizations they volunteered for: Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Relay for Life, Recovery Walk, Brickfest, Habitat for Humanity, College of the Ouachitas, United Way, Malvern/Hot Spring County and the Greater Hot Springs Chambers of Commerce, Back to School Blast, 4-H, Linden Street Daycare, food drives for the Rose Food Pantry and Jackson House (ig.libertyonline, 2012). Youth Literacy is another organization they donate to. Diamond Lake Federal Credit Union believes in a positive influence on the
To protect the Starbucks brand, culture, and reputation, each employee is responsible for adhering to the company’s core values. This includes complying with the law, in addition to demonstrating ethical conduct. The ethical culture of Starbucks determines the quality of decisions made by employees. If the employees are working in an ethical environment, they will be compelled to make ethical decisions. Employees are expected to make good decisions using their values, knowledge, and previous experiences.
My final project with Chesapeake Childcare Department was to create a grid to track the vendor visits by the Social Workers and to work with the workers on the training seminar. The vendor training seminar was a gear towards getting all the credentials up-to-date in our records and to have all the memorandum agreements signed, which are used to pay the vendors. The Department of Human Services service almost 36,000 residents each year. The people we serve are those who suffer hardship or who have been unable to participate fully in social and economic life of the community. We provide cash aid for people in need through a network of local, state, and federal assistance programs.
Every year I was involved in Dream Makers where we bought toys for underprivileged kids during Christmas. During Thanksgiving I collected and sorted food for Food for Families. The biggest event that most of the community was involved in would have been Relay for Life; everyone would join together as a community and volunteer. Here at Texas A&M I am not currently involved. I am researching organizations that I would like to join next semester and plan on joining at least
From the people who plan the events and lead the people under them to what they are doing, to the people working for them to make their community better. It makes it so much better mentally when it goes perfectly and everyone including the people who work are happy. You learn so many life skills from what you do when you work to make your community a better place. My sophomore year of high school. I went to the longest community service event I have ever experienced.
Community involvement is very important. The best thing a person can donate is their time. It is every individual’s responsibility to help others in their community and beyond. For the past four years, I have gained experience through serving breakfast to the homeless at St. Andrew’s Church on the second Saturday of every month, preparing and teaching for Vacation Bible School, assisting special needs students, and acting as a teacher’s assistance for grade five, and seven classes, as well as grade eight classes. Through my experiences volunteering with children of various ages, as well as at-risk adults in the homeless community, I have discovered my passion for helping others.
