Critique Paper On Why Evolution Is True What is evolution and is it determined to be true? In the book Why Evolution is True by Jerry Coyne, the author lays out his theories of why he thinks evolution is true. To honestly answer that question, you must have an open mind and take a look at the facts that have been laid out. The religious view one may have, could cloud their opinion, and they must understand why it is important to keep an open mind. The discussion about evolution has been gone on for a very long time, and as new facts arise, the discussion continues. In the first chapter, the idea of evolution itself is explained. Evolution “simply means that a species undergoes genetic changes over time” (Coyne, 2009, p. 3). It also discusses gradualism that is a subtle change over a longer period. The example used was the “evolution of birds from reptiles” (Coyne, 2009, p. 4). The next interesting part was the fact that there are many living species and we all share fundamental traits.
