AN ANALYZE OF STANDARDIZED TEST In early march of 2015, in Chicago, more than a thousand parents and educators boycott standardized testing system just before the testing season. (The Battle Over Standardized Testing in Chicago) They were there to fight against a policy called ‘’No Child Left Behind’’. Since the acceptance of this policy in American parliament every elementary and high school students have begun to take a standardized test. However, the parents who boycott this policy think that standardized testing has no effect achievement of the students, furthermore, it is a waste of time. Ken Robinson, who is the most trenchant critic of education system said that human beings are naturally different and diverse (Death Valley). Everybody has a different kind of interest and ability. However standardized test measure only an insignificant part of what makes education expressive. (The Pro and Con Argument). An education researcher Gerald W. Bracey claims that standardized test cannot measure ‘’creativity, critical thinking, curiosity and self-discipline’s (The Pro and Con Argument). There is no doubt that creativity and critical thinking have significant importance during the educational process. According to Ken Robinson curiosity, individuality and creativity are that how people get children to learn. (Death Valley). A standardized test does not provide any of them. Standardized testing system creates an extremely competitive environment. Teachers and parents force students to be accomplishment. ıf student’s score are not well enough compare to others, parents and educators punish them. This pressure causes severe stress in younger students. According to education researcher Gregory J. Chick, the testing produces anxiety in unexpectedly for the brightest students and makes young children cry even sick. (The Pro and Con Argument) Also, Ken Robinson claims that there are growing amount of children are being diagnosed attention deficit disorder, just because they are not successful or do not concentrate too long test process. (The Death Valley) he indicates noteworthiness of situation with ironic words: ‘’children are not, for the most part, suffering from the psychological condition. They are suffering from childhood.’’(Death Valley) what he wants to say that children cannot live their most active ages in human life just because of the standardized testing. Even if the standardized test would be the best method to measure the success, it could not be as important as mental health.
