Case Study: Creating a New Internet Business Columbiana MIS 352 May 1, 2012 Columbiana – a small independent island in the Caribbean. An underdeveloped territory that is off the beaten path for visitors despite its many attractions. 1.) What internet business model would be appropriate for the company to follow in creating a website? I believe the best revenue model for the “Columbiana” website would be the Advertising Revenue Model. While the website will not actually be conducting any transactional business it can be used to generate revenues through sales of advertising space and pay-per click fees. I will assume for this case study that the government is behind this initiative and will support it financially in its early stages. But in the long term I believe the website and its supporting entity (chamber of commerce, business group, local government) can become self sufficient through strong sales of its ad space and from the revenues generated from the pay-per click traffic the site generates. A good example of a site using this same business model can be found here: http://www.gohawaii.com. The Hawaiian Islands website is very similar to the site I would hope to create for “Columbiana”, both in function and in what I assume is a similar business model. 2.) In what ways can the company benefit from a website? How would it provide value to the firm? What functions should it perform for the company? I believe that “Columbiana” could benefit from a website in a number of ways that align with the goals they have laid out for the project. But to answer that part of the question I would like to first answer the question regarding the function of the website.
