Comparing Paulo Freire and William Brickman Terrance Jackson Northcentral University EDU5000-8 Marla Kelsey 06/22/14 This paper will be comparing two of the best educators in the world. These educators names are Paulo Freire and William Brickman. The paper will explain how they are similar and different. Also , I will talk about the challenges and contributions both of these educators. Freire and Brickman faced a lot of adversity throughout their lives before becoming two of the best educators. Brickman and Freire have similarties in their educational work. A similarity both Freire and Brickman have is their early childhood experiences. Brickman grew up in poverty and amongst immigrants during WWII. This exposed him to different cultures and languages, which aided him on his educational expertise later in life. Freire grew up in poverty because of the financial crisis. He lived amongst the peasants with his family and this is when he realized education was important. Both Freire and Brickman dedicated their lives towards creating a proper education system that helps every person of society. Also, both educators experienced major world events which aided them into the best educators in the world. Freire and Brickman are different in how they educated people. Freire built his educational system by examining poverty. Through education, the oppressed should be empowered to see the conditions that keep them in their current state (Flanagan,2005). Freire mainly focused on the creativity of the student and how education should be developed to help all classes of people. Brickman focused on improving the knowledge of educators. He accomplished this by touring the world. During the touring Brickman exchanged ideas and documents dealing with diversity in cultures with other educational scholars.
