The causes are surprising and concerning as well. There are multiple factors causing childhood obesity that can be prevented, which include health and lifestyle. According to the Journal of the American Academy of Physicians Assistants, “Obesity in childhood is influenced by social and familial factors as well as the child’s genetics and activity level” (Perplech; Russ; Rizzolo; Sedrak, 2011). According to National Institutes of Health (2011), "Children with obesity-related diabetes may have serious difficulties making basic lifestyle changes” (Obese teens and diabetes, para.). According to California diabetes program (2009) "Pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes in children and are growing public health problems. What information should you obtain from her obstetric record? From her obstetric record you can learn her weight gain pattern because preeclampsia can cause sudden weight gain of more than 2 pounds per week (Durham & Chapman, 2014). Any previous preeclampsia and a family history of preeclampsia are important details and should be in her chart (but patient might also tell you). As this is the patient’s first pregnancy she is at risk for developing preeclampsia, as the risk is highest for first pregnancies. The patient’s young age also put her at high risk as
For Teenagers who fall pregnant, it is difficult to juggle the insecurities of teenage hood with learning basic parenting skills. As a result, teenage parents often consider abortion. Statistics show that New Zealand has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in the world, with around fifty girls in every thousand falling pregnant. Of these pregnancies, about half result in abortion. An advantage of putting a parenting licence in place will be to educate these teenagers on basic parenting skills to qualify them to raise a child, avoiding such abortions.

Mrs. Bush (2007) stated “good health starts with good habits. By educating ourselves about our bodies and by taking simple steps to protect them we can prevent or delay some of todays most common and devastating health conditions.”(First Lady Laura Bush) Mrs. Bush also announced (2007) “the government is working to address one of the greatest dangers to America’s young people: childhood overweight and obesity. Nearly one in five school-age children in the United States are overweight and the problem seems to be getting worse. As a nation we need to educate ourselves and our children about the benefits of healthy eating habits, and the risks of poor eating habits.”(First Lady Laura Bush, 2007) These children are our future. In 2005 the United States had higher infant mortality and maternal mortality rates than many other industrialized nations; ranked 30th in infant mortality and 20th in maternal mortality. Prenatal health care is considered one of the best preventive health care practices that could potentially reduce the risk of maternal mortality and infant death. During prenatal health care the mother can undergo risk assessment tests, treatment for current medical conditions, and valuable education. The health disparities amongst maternal mortality have been contributed to poverty, sociocultural factors and limited education. Women who live in areas of high poverty usually cannot afford adequate health care and when they become pregnant they are less likely to see a doctor

I agree with Warner in saying that we need a cultural change health habits. We live in society where a high percentage of our youth is obese and before they turn eighteen they have health issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure. The parents are the one to blame, i totally understand some parents don't have the time, resources, or money, but their are ways they can decrease their children health risk. There are a number of things i see in our culture that encourage "bad" health habits.individuals skipping breakfast in the morning is one example, not eating breakfast effects metabolism and your ability to concentrate due to the fact your body has limited energy. Not brushing your teeth before you go to bed is another bad health habit, many people don't know that no brushing your teeth at night can rotten your teeth and it may cause you to have gum disease later on in life.Another bad habit that i see in our culture is individuals not eating a few a hours prior to drinking alcohol, this may lead to excessive throwing up,diarrhea, dehydration and alcohol poison. Sleeping late is major bad habit in our culture, it can cause you become sick or effect your ability to remember and think. There are a number of things i see in our culture that encourage "good" health habits.Mediation is one, mediation can lower your blood pressure, stress level, and decrease your chance of having a stroke or heart attack.Drinking water is another good habit that flushes toxins out the body and decrease your chance of getting acne or pimples. Natural food is always a good health habit that gives you more nutrients and fiber unlike regular food.
