Compare and Contrast of Two Learning Environments Andrew Skupnick Everest University Composition I ENC 1101 Professor Malcolm Campbell December 6, 2012 Abstract Higher education learning environments now have more choices than the conventional brick and mortar schools offered in years past. The learning environment can be a significant choice for persons desiring higher education. Life’s responsibility and financial challenges often deter one’s decision to return to school. The choice of an online learning environment, with attendance at any hour, is fast becoming a primary choice of higher education. The student determines which environment would be the best choice for his or her individual learning style.
Yes, College Is a Smart Choice As post secondary education is more available and accessible in U.S., parents, teenagers, and educators start to turn their attention to a new issue: whether attending college education is a wise choice when the benefit is compared with the cost? Although there are many pungent criticisms pointing to higher education’s large amount of cost, the merit of advanced education should not be neglected. When considering the high salary reward, abundant job opportunities, and more thorough understanding of matters that college education can provide to it’s students, people have to admit that attending college is a good choice. For middle class American families, the tuition fee is mostly being concerned today, before going to college. The current U.S. student tuition, books and living cost for one college year is at average of $30,000, which certainly is a significant financial burden for middle class families.
Free College Education When you were in high school did you ever wish college were free for every one? I believe college should be free to the public. So why cannot college be free in the U.S. with all the high taxes we pay? President Clinton told graduating seniors that their degrees would be “a better investment than anything Wall Street could offer” (news article, June 11). The money we spend in on something we do not can go to one of those high school students that have it hard to get into or the money.
Should scholarships and fellowships be taxed? Yes because it’s more money that the government gets so that means that they might take less out of checks. Because they have another source of income. Yes it is an income so like pay checks and other incomes it should be taxed No, the money is for school often is used all for school might disgorge students No, school is expensive people need all the help they can get. What really makes this claim argumentive is that there is a clear argument for either side withers you want scholarships and fellowships taxed or if you don’t scholarships and fellowships to be taxed.
Community colleges serve as a crucial solution for overcoming one's personal hardships, helping get our nation out of the current economic recession, and building an educated society. As a refugee looking for knowledge and self-confidence, who is totally unaware of the US educational system, community college has become a golden opportunity that is available while other 4-year institutions closed the door on accepting me by demanding challenging requirements and high rate tuition. While watching or listening to education issues' debates, one will definitely notice the extreme focus on the economic benefits of having a higher education certificate regardless of any other social aspects. For many students education is the only way of self-reform. Rose emphasizes some of the possible dangerous effects of ignoring the moral and human values of education and explains how it will eventually lead to the loss of the real purpose behind education.
Taking into consideration from an aspect of the importance of accepting post-secondary education, I hold the view that free post-secondary education should been provided by the government. Firstly, education increases job opportunities for individuals. Poverty, homelessness, unemployment; these are some of the worst aspects that plague our society. How can we combat these problems? One possibility is through the increased education of our youth.
Providing free tuition to students will require funding from some source other than the students themselves. In the context of this resolution, it is logical to presume that the U.S. government will be the source of this funding. Let it be noted that the two sides of this argument should not be arguing liberal versus conservative ideology. This debate must be dominated by factual evidence in order for either side to support its stance on the resolution. Based on the preceding framework, my partner and I must factually prove that it is incorrect for the U.S. government to provide students with two years of free tuition to a community or technical college in order to satisfy the resolution and win this debate.
Anyone can go online and see that there is already a great deal of federal funding set aside for English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction, but the passage of this amendment would create even more need. No doubt, tax money will have to be redirected in order to meet these needs, and there will be those who will resent that, but in the long run, I feel it will reduce spending in the areas of foreign-language translation services and
Most people that think a higher education should be free are not very wealth but there are programs like financial aide to help them if they have the desire to get a higher education. If a higher education is just handed to them they begin to take things for granted and if that happens then they expect everything to be handed to them. So if America paid for the higher education of its citizens, America would not improve but eventually fail. Not paying for the higher education insures there will be service jobs; people that don’t have the desire to try in college will not waste the government’s money, and utilize
In my opinion, if we redistribute the wealth, or charge higher taxes to those who are wealthy we will discourage young people to want to work towards becoming wealthy just to have it taken away. What I mean by this is, if you are given everything it becomes less valuable, but if you have to work hard for everything, it becomes invaluable. I believe the same notion applies in education. Yes, all schools should be given the same base funding, and supplies. The educational system needs to stop focusing on test scores, and more on creative thinking and problem solving.
