Administrative Medical Assistants helps a physician perform administrative duties by handling basic clinical tasks. They work in doctors’ offices, hospital, and medical clinic helping to keep operations running smoothly and efficiently. The job description of a medical assistant varies from office to office. Some assistants do patient and lab work exclusively. Others are responsible for medical records, bookkeeping and answering phones.
They also need to know how to manage patient records, work with medical billing and coding, and how to manage the day-to-day workings of a medical office. They make rounds daily, work quickly and efficiently, and work long hours.
Overview of an MA’s Job A medical assistant (MA) or a certified medical assistant (CMA) is an important part of the medical team in doctors’ offices, clinics and hospitals. The medical assistant helps doctors and nurses with a selection of medical responsibilities as well as administrative duties. The MA often is assigned clerical work that the physician does not have the time to get done. Medical assistants also do their share of administrative tasks such as sorting paperwork, medical billing, insurance coding and keeping proper medical records. These individuals also work closely with patients by taking vital signs, taking notes in medical charts, etc.
I plan to finish my degree in one year. In the long term my goal is to apply to the University of South Alabama where I intend to finish my doctorate degree with a focus in neonatal nurse practitioner. After I finish my doctorate, I plan to work in the NICU where I currently work as a nurse. In the thirteen years I have been at The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, I have learned a great deal from the Neonatologists and the NNP’s. One of the NNP’s that I have worked closely with throughout the years has agreed to be my mentor in my journey to become a NNP.

Professional Medical Assistants provide quality care to patients. Medical assistants spend time with the patient going over medical history, they talk about medications currently taking, they also take the patients vitals and prepare them for the physician to see them. Medical Assistants also clean and sterilize the exam rooms, instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies. They collect blood, prepare and administer medications as the physician has requested. Medical assistants must have knowledge of treatments, procedures, medications, diets, ect.
Licensed nurses are often part of the staff at nursing facilities. They are available to assist in any problems that may occur with the residents. Some facilities have contracted physicians who work for them or come into the building weekly to see their patients. In facilities, medication changes are monitored on a regular basis as well as care meetings notifying staff and families of any important issues. Almost all facilities offer transportation to and from appointments and other activities that residents may want to be involved in.
In the nursing field there’s many task and responsibilities you are required to do. Nurses responsibility is to treating patients, educate patients, and give emotional support to patients and their family and many other tasks. Nurses can find employment at various places such as, hospitals, nursing homes, jail house, and schools.
