In this assignment I will be describing the type of business, purpose and ownership of the two businesses. The organization that I will be talking about first is Oxfam. Oxfam is a Global charity. This means that it is one of the biggest charities in the world as it operates all over the world. The charity has thousands of employees who have done work in over 90 countries in many continents. Some of the countries they have worked in include Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Chile, the United Kingdom as well as many more. As Oxfam is a charity, it is in the voluntary sector. This means that is it a non-profit organisation. The purpose of Oxfam is to help find and introduce lasting solutions to help combat poverty around the world. The charity is “part of a global movement for change, empowering people to create a future that is secure, just, and free from poverty.” Oxfam offers lots of different services a charity. These include humanitarian work to help those affected by natural disasters, help those affected by famine as well as work on Fairtrade, health, human rights etc. Oxfam operates in the tertiary sector. This means that Oxfam is an organization that provides goods and services to people. The services Oxfam provides to people around the Globe include giving access to clean water and also building clinics and schools in countries so that health and education is available to more people. These are just 2 of the many services Oxfam provides as a charity. Furthermore, Oxfam also has charity shops in countries such as the UK, France and Germany through which they sell donated items. Oxfam is also the biggest second-hand books retailer in Europe. Oxfam is a not-for-profit limited liability company that has no owners but is instead run by a council of Trustees.
