Dance 330 Prof. Liz Lapuh Tap Class Dance Critique Brian Santora’s Tap Class Brian Santora began his dance training 23 years ago. He has trained in such styles as classical Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop and more since the age of 3. He has performed and trained with numerous professional productions. Brian has had the privilege of working with some of the top dancers and choreographers in the country. He has participated in the Dance Olympus in Boston where he taught Tap. Brian Santora gave us a brief introduction on what the song was about and how it should apply to your movements. He had us listen to the song so we can consider the rhythmic orientation. This song was called “Secrets, by One Republic.” This song starts of slow then it becomes fast when it comes to the chorus. Brian expressed how you could put any style into the combination. He had complete respect to how we can perform this combination however we wanted to. If we mess up, we mess up. Just keep trying and you will get it. He encouraged us to mess up so he can correct us on our mistakes.…show more content…
We started off to do shuffles with both feet really fast forward, backward, both sides. We stopped then started shuffling from left to right. We moved our shoulders back and forth then did some head tilts to stretch out our neck. Lastly, he told us to reach down to our toes for a good 20 seconds. Brian is on the faculty of many studios in the Boston area and is in demand as a teacher around the country. His choreography has won numerous awards throughout the country and he has had many opportunities to work with some of the most talented dancers and choreographers in this industry. I couldn’t agree anymore how much Brian expressed on the stress proper body mechanics. He emphasized on how the ankles should not be turned in while shuffling because it will prevent a serious injury in the ankle. He made sure our knees were perfectly bent at all times while
