More than 70% of the earth’s surface is covered by ocean, which shows the importance of water on our planet. On a smaller scale, the human body alone is made up of about 65% water out of the entire body weight as a whole. Water is one of the most important things on this planet. It serves as a life force for the planet, the human population, animals, and plant life. The problem is not all water is good for human consumption. In the past couple of years, public health concerns have led to a significant increase in the amount of bottled waters that is consumed by the American public. The question still stands, is bottled water a safe alternative to tap water? Studies have not shown a direct link between any illness’ and death from the consumption of bottled water. So what could possibly make one spend money on something they can retrieve from the comfort of their own home? Technically, both tap (municipal) water and bottled water are safe to drink in the United States. Advertisements and labels give a false since of “better” quality water with images and word choice. Phrases such as “artesian well water”, “spring water”, or “mineral water” do not necessarily mean the water is any more healthy or cleaner than the water from your own tap. It is important to look beyond the messages portrayed on the label and to understand the type of treatment and water source of your bottled product. The filtration process for bottled water removes contaminants that could harm the human body and the taste. The pipes from house hold water filters often become rusted over the years and could leave behind lead particles in your drinking water. Purchasing cases of bottled water could protect both you and your family from that concern. These easily portable bottles are now being made more eco-friendly at every possible opportunity.
