Gentry, Marissa March 18, 2014 English-1020 Bottled Water vs. Tap Water Water is an essential part to human life. Humans need around eight to twelve cups per day. It makes up for normal functions such as breathing and sweating that happens on a daily basis. How can people meet this requirement? People have two choices, either tap water or bottled water. Water is vital to life, and although people can live for several weeks on water alone, they cannot survive for more than a few days without water. Bottled water can taste better then tap water because of the way it is disinfected at the production site of the water. The biggest controversy is bottled water vs. tap water. Many people in the world today are switching from drinking tap water to drinking bottled water. The number of people who drink bottled water has been rising over the past few decades and by an average of 7% per year. (“Bottled Water vs. Tap Water”) One reason might be the fancy packaging. Another might include how convenient it is to grab a bottle on the way. Some people think bottled water is healthier and tastes better than tap water. Therefore I agree that bottled water is much better than tap water, because it is a great way to stay hydrated without the calories. Some people claim that using bottled water is severely damaging the environment due to recycling issues. Others, however, believe that bacteria in tap water are not good for your health. All over the world thousands of bottles are being made from reusable plastic. While water bottles are able to be recycled after use, it has been found that the majority are disposed of by trash or being left behind somewhere.
