On January 6, 1706 one of the most brilliant and influential men in American history was born in Boston, Massachusetts, that man was Benjamin Franklin. When asked who Benjamin Franklin is, a common response would be that he is the mastermind that discovered electricity. In reality, he should also be remembered as a publisher, politician, religious man, philosopher, entrepreneur, writer, and educator. He began working as an apprentice for his brother, James Franklin in his printing company. Franklin started a printing business of his own and then later assisted many other businesses with their ventures. He wrote many pamphlets and articles that changed the way the thirteen colonies interacted within the colonies and how Britain and other English countries viewed the American colonies. He commenced places of higher education that enlightened the young, old, rich and poor alike to broaden minds. Benjamin Franklin also served as a member of the Pennsylvania Assembly and even served on the committee to draft the Declaration of Independence. He assisted with the negotiations of treaties for peace and prosperity. With all that Benjamin Franklin has done through out not just his career but also his passion in life presents his story as an illustration of self-improvement. To summarize what I felt were Benjamin Franklin’s most astounding accomplishments and key ways that he illustrates self-improvement I am going to discuss some very crucial points in his life and career. His working career began as a printing apprentice at the age of twelve working for his brother, James Franklin, in Boston, Massachusetts. While working for his brother he became familiar with the printing business and became proficient at it. He even managed the print shop while his brother was incarcerated for printing a piece in the newspaper, New England Courant, which offended the Assembly.
