OUR FOUNDING FATHER BENJAMIN FRANKLIN BRANDIE JACKSON COLLEGE AMERICA Benjamin Franklin our 6th president was born January 17, 1706, in Boston MA. His education was Boston Latin School 1714-1716. He was given the Copley award which is an award for outstanding achievements in research in any branch of science it was given by the Royal Society of London. Benjamin Franklin discovered electricity, and founded the first library. He was put to work at the age of 10 by his father making soap and candles; he didn’t like that too much, so he started writing newspapers with his brother.
He was put to work in trade but none of the trades interested him. He has fascinated with the sea instead but his father was against it. Franklin still went behind his father’s back after work, and built a Wharf with the other boys and got into trouble the next morning. Franklin’s father taught him a lesson that anything dishonest is never useful. Franklin ended up as an apprentice to his half-brother, James who was a printer.

Whipple was born at Kittery, Maine, and educated at a common school studying how to be a merchant, judge, and a soldier until he went off to sea. He became a Ship's Master by the age of twenty-three. In 1759 he landed in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and in partnership with his brother established himself as a merchant.
