The reading started out talking about a Babylonian Theogony where Hain, the ruler of Dunnu, was killed by his so that he could be the ruler and marry his mother. Amakandu then married Sea, his sister, but was killed by his son Lahar soon after. This keeps happening for the next few generations and ends with a person that’s name was missing as the ruler. The Sacrifice of Primal Man is a hymn that tells a story of the creation of the universe and all of the gods. With the Primal Man sacrificing himself, part of him made up the Earth and the rest made up all of the spiritual beings. In the Great Hymn to the Aten, Akhenaten is praising the sun god. He then moves on to talk about the first and most important gods and what they were the ruler over. He also talked about these gods’ kids and their importance. Later on in the poem, a fight breaks out between the titans and the humans. Zeus becomes infuriated, comes to earth, and sends the titans to the underworld. The final part of this section is the first eleven chapters of Genesis. The first eleven chapters are the Hebrews explanation of the creation of the universe. At the end of each day that God is creating the universe, he steps back and mentions that his work is “good.” On the sixth day of the creation, God created Adam and Eve and put them in the Garden of Eden. After being told not to eat from a certain tree, Eve meets a serpent that tells her to eat the fruit. Adam and Eve eat the fruit and this frustrates God and he brought them out of Eden. Adam and Eve had two kids, Cain and Abel. Cain got mad at Abel one day and decided to kill him. God then made Cain leave his home.
