Paragraph1- In “Attention Shoppers: Your Dreams in Aisle 3,” Sharon Zukin points out that fact that there is so much ease in the way that shopping is done these days. We can shop any time of day or night, anywhere even if we don’t have a lot of money. She states that most critics blame us for buying stuff that we do not need, calling it “Affluenza,” and that the more money we have, the more we spend. Zukin also says that market researchers and mangers will try to identify what kind of things we buy as well as our spouses, brothers, parents, and even our pets and sell it to us. Finally, Zukin argues that whether study consumer guides or push wire carts from a warehouse club to mall, we’re searching for our dreams and we cannot be blamed if we find them in stores. I have noticed that I have a case of “Affluenza,” because in my day to day life, I am constantly buying things that I don’t need. Body paragraph # 1 I try to make a quick run into a store like Wal-Mart or target because I have something specific in my mind that I want to buy, but once a walk in the store I’m like a kid in a candy store. Ex.1 For my mother-in-law’s birthday, I was ordered a cake from Wal-Mart and fully intended on going in and getting just the cake, but I saw a new product in the make-up aisle. I knew I didn’t need it, but bought it anyway and was highly disappointed. Body paragraph #2 Aside from buying just one thing I don’t need, I also sometimes buy an abundance of things I don’t need. Ex. 2 There was a sell at Sam’s Club on bath tissue and with my plus membership I get through my job, I get extra savings on things. The Charmin tissue was $10 for a 24 pack and I bought 5. When I got home I thought to myself, what human being goes to the bathroom that much. Body paragraph # 3 I shop and shop to find the perfect pair of pants that hug my hips the way they should.
