Culture Assignment The Alzheimer’s Association is a non-profit organization that is not only a huge advocate for the disease Alzheimer’s, but also focuses on the support, care, and research of this disease. This non-profit organization is all about supporting those that have been affected by Alzheimer’s or are currently being affected by giving them all the necessary information and tools. These tools include online resources, 24/7 helpline, support groups, message boards, education programs, etc. (Attea & Johns, 2010). Lawson and Hatch (2013) state that the mission and vision of an organization needs to be clear enough for others to understand what they are striving for. The mission and vision of the organization are especially clear through the continual effort of the organization to provide awareness of the disease. The organization, itself, has fought hard to pass acts to create a plan for the disease. In 2011, an act was finally signed by President Obama called “The National Alzheimer’s Project Act”, which provides a national plan for Alzheimer’s by creating coordination with all areas of the disease (Jobst, 2011). These areas include research, care, community, support, institutional, etc. The organization wasn’t able to accomplish this victory of passing the act without “more than 50,000 e-mails, nearly 10,000 phone calls, and more than 1000 meetings by the Alzheimer’s Association and its advocates” (Jobst, 2011, p. 1). It is moments like this that the organization is driven by its’ goal and mission through the teamwork of its’ employees and advocates.
