Concealed Weapons on Campus Envision an ordinary college or university. A group of people are having an argument .Heated words are being thrown from both side. In the heat of the moment, someone does a foolish thing, he attacks another person. Now what`s the worst thing that can happen? The whole group might get involved into a big fight, several people might get injured and police might have to intervene to break the fight. Now imagine the same thing one more time, but in this scene, everyone is armed. A moment of adrenaline rush coupled with bad judgment might lead one to pull out his concealed weapon. In this case, everyone will pull out their weapons to protect their own life, and a bullet from anyone of the group will start a bloodbath.…show more content…
In most violent crimes, guns are used. In the recent years, in spite of many measures taken by the law enforcement agencies, campus violence rate has gone up. The FBI, Secret Service and U.S Department of Education released the study, called “Campus Attacks,”1 on the third anniversary of the Virginia Tech Massacre. It is the first comprehensive look into “targeted violence” on college campuses. The study examined all reported incidents of “targeted violence” since 1900 and found that 60 percent of the 272 cases of college violence have occurred in the last 20 years. About 30 percent of the total number of reported cases occurred between 2000 and 2008, the study said. In the recent years, many high profile shootings such as Columbine High School shooting in 1999, leaving 14 students (including shooters) and one teacher killed and 27 others wounded; 9 shot dead, 15 injured at Birney Elementary School in 2010 and the most infamous Virginia Tech massacre where 32 were killed wounded 25 others in 2007 have made the topic of concealed carrying one of the most talked of topics in America and an important political agenda.
