Are Social Networking Sites As Safe As You Think? This essay will discuss whether social net working sites are safe. Evidence will be provided to show both sides of the argument. The internet is very popular with both young people and adults. It is used for a variety of reasons, although one of the main uses of the internet is for social net working. The main reasons for the sites were to “provide a virtual community for people interested in a particular subject, to simply “hang out” together or to increase their circle of acquaintances.” According to the guardian, classmates.com established in 1995, it was probably the closest model to recent social networking sites, Such as Facebook and friends reunited. According to hubpages.com facebook is the world’s largest social networking site, with over 300 million users. Personally I think that with over 300 million users on a social networking site is good as you can meet new people although it is worrying that you don’t know what else is going on at the other side of your computer. Some people enjoy meeting new people on these sites and others enjoy finding old friends from primary and high school. “The sites take the idea of “friends of friends” to a new level and allow today’s youths, and others to turn strangers into new circles of friends, or at least keep in touch with people they have met in the “real world.” Social networking sites also can increase exposure to people who have less-than-friendly intentions, including sexual predators. If they have not been affected by anything on the social networking sites then they should make themselves feel lucky. There are some people that do get affected by this and it lives with them for life. I worry a lot when I am on the social networking sites like Facebook for example I’m not to sure who can all look at my facebook page so it worries me in case someone
