Applied Journalism Reflection IDC4U0 When this semester, which happens to be my last semester at Applewood Heights S.S. started, I set a goal for myself to improve on getting everything handed in on time and to do the best I can, and throughout this semester I have struggled to advance my goal. By re-examining the work I have done this semester I can evaluate where I have made improvements, what areas still need work and whether my participation in this class has been effective in achieving this goal. The one improvement this semester that really stood out for me was the fact that I have expanded my knowledge on the cameras. With better pictures, this had a positive effect on my mark by making my projects and pages look professional. My main goal was handing everything in on time with my best effort, but because I decided not to make much use of my class time, I simply cannot say it was my best work, because to produce your best work, you need to spend your time and hard work on your work. Coming in to this class, I had zero experiences with photography but I left with knowledge and a better understanding of the technology. It seemed to me as if it was only focusing on a image and taking the photo and hoping for the best outcome, it was much more than that, no hope or luck, just skill and knowledge played a huge role in the outcome of the photo. This all started to click in my head when I began to play with the ISO setting on the cameras, not knowing anything about it and just thinking the higher the ISO, the better, was totally wrong on my part. This didn’t change until I started thinking why we had so many choices if 1600 ISO was the best anyways, why would anyone go for a lower ISO? From asking my classmates, I learned two other settings that also change the exposure of the picture, these were the Aperture, and Shutter Speed. When I was taking picture of field
