Facility administrators need to establish a balance between providing a safe environment, while at the same time providing each resident with opportunities for choice, control, and individuality (Kane & Kane, 2001). The staffing levels of professional nurses in a nursing home are not as high as that of a hospital; however, nursing homes have registered nurses on duty that perform assessments, administer medications, perform treatments, and interact with families and physicians, to name some of their many responsibilities. Nursing home residents often become ill. In 1997, there were 1,465,000 nursing home residents and 2.1 million elderly nursing home discharges due to hospitalization and death in the United States (Gabrel, 2000). When a resident is observed to have a condition change, the nurse performs an assessment and makes a decision whether or not to notify the physician and the resident’s family or guardian.

Interviews were conducted with RNs who were no longer practicing clinically. I n the United States, nursing workforce projections indicate the registered nurse (RN) shortage may exceed 500,000 RNs by 2025 (American Association of Colleges of Nursing [AACN], 2010; Cipriano, 2006; U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2002). In 2008, the national RN vacancy rate in the United States was greater than 8% (AACN, 2010). Evidence suggests experiences as a newly licensed RN directly impact individual perceptions related to the profession (Cowin & Hengstberger-Sims, 2006). An estimated 30%-50% of all new RNs elect either to change positions or leave nursing completely within the first 3 years of clinical practice (AACN, 2003; Aiken, Clarke, Sloane, Sochalski, & Silber, 2002; Cipriano, 2006; Cowin & Hengstberger-Sims, 2006).

“Despite the number of older adults with chronic illness, nearly 79 per cent of older adults who need long-term care live at home rather than in institutions (Merck Institutions of Aging and Health and Centers of Disease Control 2004). This would suggest that support for older adults from family, friends and the community is necessary for them to remain in their homes (Gallagher, et. al, 2009).” Bibliography Lewis, Sharon. Women comprise 35 percent of the country's 51 million shareholders. Researchers in the 1970s predicted the disappearance of gender communication differences as women moved into higher management positions, the gap or "disconnection" remains. Question: Where does this lack of awareness surface most often? Answer: In organizations where one gender mainly sells to buyers of the same gender. Take stock brokers for example.
