I enjoyed the casting choices because the actors and scenery joined to convey a part of the movies theme. It discussed issues that were amenable. As stated in our text by Edward G. Robinson, “an audience identifies with the actors of flesh and blood and heartbeat, as no reader or beholder can identify with even the most artful paragraphs in books or the most inspiring paintings. There, says the watcher, but for some small difference in time or costume or inflections or gait, go I …. And so, the actor becomes a catalyst; he or she brings ignition that spark in every human being that longs for the miracle of transformation”.
The close up on Susan Sarandon’s face is used to show how beautiful she is because she uses REVLON. By using her beauty it gives the product credibility and it manipulates people because a famous person is being used and one immediately assumes that the product must be good. Furthermore, alliteration is used. Susan Sarandon’s initials match the initials of the title “Star Style” people will be more compelled to buy the product because she uses it and especially because the words confident and charismatic are used to describe her, again alliteration is shown. The REVLON advertisement use of rhetoric appeals to those who know who Sandra is and like
This theory fits really well with Love Actually because all the characters in this movie are trying to make sense of what is happening to them. Implicit Personality Theory is your unique set of beliefs and hypothesis about what people are like (Beebe, p. 68) and it fits really well in this movie, because there is one character that I think is a great example that shows what his beliefs are. Common Sense Theory is something happens, an emotional reaction happens and then a physiological reaction happens (Beebe, p. 42). There are many great examples of this as well, but one particular example is with Sarah (Curtis, 2003). The last one is Systems Theory.
In Mel Gibson’s version of Hamlet, Hamlet’s acting is outstanding because while watching the play we can see the effort and talent Gibson has put in the movie. Gibson knows what his lines are and he exactly knows what his actions are. His acting is so natural because while he was acting the audience can feel the pain he is suffering through. Another difference in both versions of the movie is; in Kenneth’s version it does not seem that the play is acted in the theatre, but it is done by professionals. Kenneth’s version is filmed as Hamlet family is very royal and rich; also the house is a mansion.
Media and Lifestyle The art on the silver screens transcended onto the clothing that woman wore to personify a certain independence. Woman felt stylish and sophisticated even under the unstable economic climate. Technicolor, colored film, was also breaking through, allowing audiences to see the colors that are in style for the season. The color champagne became a red carpet classic for Hollywood favorites such as Jean Harlow and Loretta Young (figs 1-2). Children’s fashion was influenced by what Shirley Temple would wear in her films (Chancey, fig 9).
But what specifically do the critics like about Casablanca that has resulted in its popular appeal? From a woman’s prospective, Lauri Boeder writes on About.Com that “Casablanca is a great romance, a stirring wartime adventure, a suspenseful action movie, and in the end, a terrific buddy movie.” She further states that “Casablanca is thrilling on the first viewing, and so richly textured it rewards being watched over and over. The dialogue is clever, touching, and dryly funny by turns and utterly irresistible. See it once and then see it again.” is what she recommends. But what does Roger Ebert say about Casablanca?
Just stand back and watch them set off sparks.” The supporting actresses Shirley MacLaine (Ouiser), Olympia Dukakis (Clairee), and Daryl Hannah put the icing on the cake. They were great and made the film even more worth the while. Finally, Steel Magnolias has been awarded some of the top awards ever presented. The People’s Choice Award, Golden Globe, and an Oscar are just to name a few of the six. Not only were the southerners nominated for the American Comedy Award in 1990, they also come close to the Golden Globe, as well as the CFCA Award.
For conclusion: The movie is a fairy tale, a happy ending heaped atop the giant load-bearing actors. The novel consists of minute details, running through, holding it together. The details and the beauty of the language of the book hold the novel higher: easier and more completely above the movie like the steel frame allows for refinement in architecture. It stands taller and more elegantly. Each serves its purpose well; the steel frame buildings just do so with more flair.
For example, the filming techniques that Hitchcock uses in the movie are very effective. In the short story, DuMaurier uses sensory imagery to make the readers feel what the characters in the story is experiencing. The effects may be different in the movie and the book, but both of the productions achieve a high level of psychological
Katie De Hoedt Nickolas White Composition 101 2 December 2007 America’s Favorite Blond, But Why? Before she was Marilyn Monroe and blond, her given name was Norma Jean Morienson. Her image change can be noted as part of her appeal. It was part of the process of reinventing herself and transforming into what everyone became to know her as. The idea of reinventing one’s self, changing one’s life completely, and becoming the marvel of everyone because of it is appealing to Americans.
