Drug Addiction in Adolescence Abstract “Drug addiction is a dependence on an illegal drug or medication” (Merriam-Webster’s, 2000). Once one was addicted, it becomes the focus in that individual's life. The purpose for this paper was to learn and understand the positive and negative outcomes involving drug addiction in the lives of adolescence. Drug addiction in Adolescence was a continuing problem across the United States. There were many reasons an adolescent will try and even abuse different types of drugs and possibly alcohol; some of them included peer pressure, boredom, and curiosity and/or family problems such as parents going through a divorce.
Some research data on the adolescent population show that adolescents seem to be less motivated than adults to seek or stay in treatment, and that the motivation they have more likely emanates from pressures exerted by exerted by external agents such as family members or court officials (Breda & Heflinger, 2004). Breda & Heflinger (2004) conducted a study to assess multiple domains of incentive to change among adolescent admitted to publicly funded treatment for substance abuse with variable social, legal and clinical
Factors involved in recovery from schizophrenia: A qualitative study of mental health nurses in the United States I. Introduction . According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention(2013), “Worldwide prevalence estimates range between 0.5% and 1%. Age of first episode is typically younger among men (about 21 years of age) than women (27 years). Of persons with schizophrenia, by age 30, 9 out of 10 men, but only 2 out of 10 women, will manifest the illness.” This is a very difficult illness to deal with for anyone that is diagnosed with this condition and the people that love and have to be around an individual that has been diagnosed with this condition.
The usage of alcohol and drugs during the adolescences years could possibly lead to the brain deviating from its normal route of maturation and key processes of brain development (Squeglia, L. M., Jacobus, J., & Tapert, S. F.,2009). There was a study conducted in which adolescents with an alcohol addiction and those who did not have an addition were tested
How does drug use relate to delinquency? Studies taking from a Treatment Research organization have found youth who take drugs under 15 years of age are at a greater risk for delinquent behaviors than adolescents above that age. Depending on the type of substance being abused and its prolonged use, juveniles can become physically and / or psychologically dependent; therefore, juveniles are more willing to participate in delinquent activity, such as stealing or selling drugs in order to pay for their supply of drugs or seek out a negative socialization group with other delinquent peers, which in return will provide easier access to drugs (Liddle, 2008) This is where the delinquency starts and the teenager begins to commit a crime without thinking of what could happen if they get caught. All the teenager is thinking about is how to forget that they have a problem at home, school, or peer pressure they just want to get high and they
The ADHD Spectrum and Everyday Life: Experience Sampling of Adolescent Moods, Activities, Smoking, and Drinking Jennifer Madrigal Canada Community College This paper was prepared for Psychology 100, taught by Professor Sondra Saterfield. The ADHD Spectrum and Everyday Life: Experience Sampling of Adolescent Moods, Activities, Smoking, and Drinking It has been acknowledged that during the developmental stage, adolescence whom are diagnosed with characteristics of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are more engaged in risky or dangerous behaviors. Sociopaths and Psychopaths In a recent study done, it has been proven that people are not born with Sociopathic or Psychopathic mental disorders. These disorders involve a history of anti-social personality behaviors during the childhood years, usually before the age of 15 years old. If not treated properly, these disorders can continue into adulthood. In a study done in 2007, it showed that 9.1% of the American population met the criteria for having a personality disorder. That was 30.1 million people.

Lead researcher Dr. Phillip Shaw said, "If you have a certain variant of this gene, you have a greatly increased risk of having ADHD." In the second study, scientists found that ADHD is associated with lowered dopamine production. ADHD is a real disease, which can not be cured but only treated. According to Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacrology, scientist recorded a study after conducting research on the long usage of IR-MPH, which they found children who took the 10 month trial of the medicine showed decreased signs of ADHD symptoms. Jeffrey Newcorn’s scholarly journal about Pychopharmacrologic Tretment recognizes methylphenidate and detroamphetamine as both good medicines to help control the symptoms of ADHD.
