Left-handedness is being traced throughout the generations of my family. It is an autosomal recessive trait because it skips generations and the affected individuals have parents that are not affected. Right-handedness in my family is autosomal dominant because all of the parents that were right handed had at least ¾ children with the trait and it does not skip any generations. Generation I and generation II, child 4 and 8, are a great example of the autosomal recessive inheritance because the parents are not affected but two of nine children are. Generation II, child 9 and their mate (10) produced no left-handed children.
Honestly, there's nothing wrong with that. The only thing is, that if you erase evolution and tell students that your religion is right and there's no other explanation is wrong. This way of thinking is close-minded and does not educate nor prepare students for the world outside of school where people do not share the same view on life. In
While in the modern world advertising is much more accessible and very heavily abundant in day to day life, the promises and big talk of the new world during the early stages of America were just as effective in encouraging the progression of a “countercultural idea” running rampant through the soon to be citizens of our new nation. According to Thomas Frank, this idea was nothing new and seems to constantly exist where any sort of striving for personal gain is present. Starting in the ‘60s and continuing on in to the current day and age, it seems our society is spinning in a perpetual “rock ‘n’ roll” era (Frank, Pg166). That meaning the advertising fed to us by everything from cola companies to shampoo manufacturers is all fast paced and appeals to the thrill seeking rebel in each of us (Frank, 167). So at the moment, “an eternal fleeing of ‘sameness’[...]” is the ideal we strive for (Frank, Pg 166).
Over the past 100 years America has grown into a strong and influential country thanks to the advancement of new ideas and technology to which many comes from those as Fridman explains, the nerds. Nerds and geeks allow America to be known as the dominant economic country and to hold a position of growth strength in technological advances. Yet geeks and nerds are outcast. They were originally compared someone who bite heads off live chickens. In his essay, Fridman clearly portrays the disaster our country will face if we do not change our anti-intellectual attitude.
A number of states have not been able to meet the mandates required to implement this act have questioned the Federal government’s role in educational reform which was traditionally barred by the 10th Amendment from interfering in matters that are strictly within the control of state and local government. Since the Federal government has no constitutional authority to be involved in educational affairs then why had President Bush, taken so much interest in the education of the targeted population identified in the act and is this interests due partly to self interest, the interest of stakeholders or a responsibility ensure that no child is left behind in the American educational system? Further federal intrusion raises many other serious political questions about democracy in the American government and its peoples’ as it relate to shared and divided
Immigration: An Underrated Competitive Advantage The “Internet Boom” occurred in the 1990’s and is one of the largest periods of economic growth the United States has ever seen. Although many people attribute this phenomenon to the American engineers from such institutions as MIT and UC Berkley, they are very mistaken. The companies in the United States owe the majority of their success to immigrants from such places as India and Indonesia who used their IT knowledge to create new ideas in the U.S. and carry them to their homelands where they could develop them further for the U.S. companies. According to Dr. Ron Hira from Columbia University, the Indian software industry, which has been successful at exporting IT services, has grown nearly eight-fold from 1994 to 2001, with revenues in 2001 of approximately $13.5 billion and 2.87% share of India’s GDP. This enormous amount of growth and capital needs to be utilized by the tech companies in the United States and used to their competitive advantage in the global market.
Lastly, school uniforms do not provide an academic advantage, which makes them have no upside to casual clothing schools. School administrators should not make school uniforms mandatory for students because of the many downsides they have, for the few unproven benefits they are theorized to have. Firstly, school uniforms restrict students’ freedom of choosing their own clothes and do not allow for students to express themselves freely. Clothing is a major way of expressing one’s culture, sexual orientation, feelings, and emotions and by forcing students to wear and dress a certain way, this is not possible. In fact, the First Amendment of the United States Constitution guarantees that all people should have the right to express themselves freely.
The contract grading system would be less stressful for both the students and the teacher, as well as, easier to understand, fair, and accurate. The contract grading system is very simple. Here's how it works. The teacher would make up a very clear rubric as to what they want for each grade. There are no grades given during the year.
Although homework is widely considered to be an indispensable element of learning, its completion produces no significant improvement in the academic performance of the students. First, homework has not been shown to cause an increase in the academic achievements of students. Second, the frustration many students experience due to homework causes them to lose their interest towards academics. Third, the learning approach utilized by homework assignments does not stimulate higher order thinking. Hence, schools should prevent assigning regular homework because students gain no benefit related to their academics from this widely used learning tool.
However, one aspect of globalization that tends to be most apparent in almost every facet of life is the emergence of technology particularly the way in which technology is globally integrating the peoples of the world. The advent of the Internet in its unquantifiable shape and form has over the past decade provided a common platform upon which countries from all corners of the Earth are able to communicate and share information. Despite widespread usage and availability of new technology, the issue been brought to the forefront of the debate between advocates on both sides of the globalization aisle. Information technology is not the cause of the changes we are living through. But without new information and communication technologies none of what is changing our lives would be possible.
