In some parts of my country, I believe culture still exists and is taken seriously. The sociobiology approach of culture explores how the history of evolution has shaped pattern of cultures in today’s world. I believe that social interactions play a huge role in the formation of identity. Having an identity is very important. It gives a person stability in a world where everything seems to be continually changing.
Thus, we use definition constantly, whether we are explaining a slang word to someone who has never heard it before or explaining what the word “heroism” means in an essay. Writing Situation: Heroes are individuals who possess special qualities that the general public tends to admire and desire. Heroes give us exemplars of human potential and models for our own lives. But what, exactly, does it mean to be heroic? Of course there is the Webster’s Dictionary definition, but that’s not what I’m looking for.
One of the greatest questions that has been posed about human beings is whether we are the way we are because of the traits with which we were born or the social and environmental factors to which we are exposed through our life experiences. This is a recurring theme in literature about identity and the most common answer suggested in texts such as the poetry of Bruce Dawe, the film Rabbit Proof Fence, directed by Phillip Noyce and the article Veils and Vegemite by Randa Abdel-Fattah is that the two inevitably work together to forge our identities. The way, in which our natural personalities are tempered by elements such as family, the culture from which we originate as well as factors such as the materialistic society in which we live will be explored as they are discussed in the three above named texts. Dawes agreement with the fact that a person’s natural personality is quickly affected often negatively, by the social conditioning that is provided by society, is clearly demonstrate in his poem Enter... The title of the poem immediately launches these ideas by suggesting that the child enters the world in an unconventional manner, without acknowledging the
The ideals that Shakespeare questions are still prevalent within the issues of our society, no matter how different the context seems to be. Shakespeare makes us question, consider and re evaluate our opinions through realistic presentations of reality. The text Henry IV: Part One addresses a few of the most vital issues concerning humanity, that are, always have and always will be a part of our lives. The approach to leadership is solely dependent on personal needs and influences, just as perception of the value of life can only be determined contextually and how honor depends on how one conceives themselves. Through the reflection of Shakespeare's ideas through two 21st century responders, altering dramatically in context, it is evident that Shakespeare and his literature, in particular, Henry IV Part One continues to be relevant to the modern 21st century responder.
And so, the most important step to understanding Great Expectations has to be getting to know Pip. Although Pip tells the story of his life looking back, when he has already gone a long way in becoming who he is today (Pip, the narrator), we have to keep in mind that he is also the main character in this story (Pip the character). And so, we have two Pips – Pip the narrator and Pip the character. One tells the story and the other one plays it. It is important to notice Pip the narrator’s attitude, maturity and perspective towards Pip the character.
Brave New World Timed Writing Throughout our society in this current day and age, it seems to be one of the most, if not the most crucial thing to a person to be socially accepted by others. Conforming to society is what will get a person to be acknowledged and desired by others. However, a person will often go through countless episodes of moral questioning and introspect. This idea of the tension between a character's outward conformity and inward questioning acts as a strong theme throughout the novel, Brave New World. The author, Aldous Huxley, demonstrates this theme through means of one particular character, Lenina.
Whether consciously or unconsciously, the symbol carries the sense of joining things together to create a whole greater than the sum of its parts, as shades of meaning accumulate to produce a complex idea. A sign, on the other hand, may be understood as something that stands for, or points to, something else in a more literal way. A sign exists to convey information about a specific object or idea, while a symbol tends to trigger a series of perceptions, beliefs and emotional responses. It is quite clear that symbols and signs play a huge role in history; people were always looking for them, because they could give them a power and successes. Nowadays the Humanities
The Bardic tradition dates back to hundreds of years ago with the aim of keeping the ancient mysteries alive through the use of word of mouth; story-telling that use the means of poetry, myths, legends and songs. They told stories about their traditions and values in a way that would suit their audiences; ‘using the allegory of story and myth to present truths to the society in the manner which the society could accept them’ ; making it difficult to distinguish the actual moral and values of the stories from mere entertainment purposes. The bardic tradition is still influential today as the ‘myths and tales are of great importance in many societies – especially to the development of the people within those societies.’ The bards were not just poets but singers too; as it was a way of communicating with the other towns, a way of traveling the news. These are the strengths of using the means of song and music to convey a certain message or story as songs and music gets stuck in our minds; with the powerful lyrics of a song making their way into our hearts. Because of this, the songs get passed down from generation to generation, from bard to bard; some even existing today.
History is important for numerous reasons. We learn from our mistakes. We share a common experience that binds us together. Our minds are store our experiences(history). Our roots, which is basically our round and where we come from.
According to the Oxford dictionary a choice is the right, power or opportunity to select from a number of possibilities. Choices are decisions people make every second of everyday and making a choice is probably one of the most complicated and challenging things a person can face. In life we can choose our friends, religion, professions and how we treat others while in turn shaping our destinies. Jean Nidetch once said and I quote “It's choice - not chance - that determines your destiny”. This is true because we are solely responsible for our choices, and we have to accept the consequences of every deed, word, and thought throughout our lifetime.
