Katrina M. Ward April 18, 2011 Advice to High School Freshmen As a freshman, you will experience many new things. The most important thing to do while experiencing these things is to be prepared. Overcoming peer pressure, having goals and motivation, and understanding the next steps are just a few ways to be prepared. Your freshman year is very important is very important and you should be looking forward to a lot of advice. First, overcoming peer pressure is a big factor in high school. The biggest changes occur in high school. Sex, drugs, and other things are some of the biggest things tried. My advice to you is to remember your morals and not to give in to peer pressure. The usual saying goes “Everyone’s doing it”. Just because everyone is doing it, doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do. If you a religious person, then you automatically believe that you stand out from the crowd and God will be right there helping you overcoming it every step of the way. To avoid peer pressure, hang out with a crowd of friends that have the same morals and beliefs as you do. I know that you, as a young person, want to experience things for yourself. If you live long enough, you will have plenty of time to experience these things that seem pleasing to the eye. Also, having goals and motivation is another piece of advice I would like to share with you. To have goals means you have a set plan to follow and you are trying to follow and achieve them. As a freshman, you might set a goal to just make it to the next grade. Anything you can set to remind you where you are going and what you want to achieve can help you. Another thing you can benefit from is to get motivation. This can be anything or anyone that can impact you in a positive way.
