Freshmen VS First Year students Is there a difference between freshmen and first year students? When the words come to mind, many believe “No way there the same things”, yet they are completely different. Being a first year student the main focus is to maintain good academic standings. First year students are focused on their school work. The attitude of first year students is more mature than that of freshmen. Freshmen tend to be more concerned with the social events college has to offer. Living for the moment is the attitude that many freshman across the nation share. Although there are many similarities between freshmen and first year students, the differences by far outweigh the similarities. First year students when starting off in college have a set plan. In their plan it clearly states the goals they want to achieve within their four years of study. Within these years they try to position themselves in hopes of receiving a job upon graduation. To achieve these goals, they may take specific classes for the career path that they wish to pursue. Preparation is the key to success. Therefore first year students do a lot of studying. By them studying this help the students to perform well on assignments an exam. Also, first year students may join many different academic clubs and organizations. These clubs and organizations help them make connections for the future. They can also be used on resumes to show that there is a balance between more than one given tasks. In being classified as a first year student the standard is set high. With the responsibilities set forth there is a lot to achieve. First year students are noted to be more mature than a freshman.
