ACA Code of Ethics Misty D Whitehead Texas A&M University-Commerce Introduction The ACA Code of Ethics are the rules and regulations that help promote respect for whomever maybe receiving counseling no matter of any diversity he or she may have. The Ethics are set up in Sections A-H and then into one more section labeled Section I, which hold titles such as, Resolving Ethical Issues, Glossary Terms, and Index. Summary Each of the sections in the code of ethics have a tile explaining what the section is about. Also at the beginning of each section there is an introduction that explains in small detail why this is one of the regulations and rules in counselling. Also at the beginning of each section there is an introduction that explains in small detail why this is one of the regulations and rules in counselling. Each of the sections are titles as followed: Section A: The Counseling Relationship, Section B: Confidentiality and Privacy, Section C: Professional Responsibility, Section D: Relationship with Other Professionals, Section E: Evaluation and Assessment and Interpretation, Section F: Supervision Training and Teaching, and last Section G: Research and Publication. After each of the section titles there are smaller titles that explain each and every part of each section for example, A.1.a: Client Welfare, this steams off of Counseling Relationship explaining how you should respect the dignity and always respect the welfare of the client or the wellbeing of the client. Each of the the sections are done this way that way all of the topics that are mentioned and well explained. The ACE Code of Ethics is also something that was created to keep counselors out of trouble when taking on a client. Each client has diffirent issue that he our sure may wont to sure or may not wont to share just with anyone. So when going to a counselor a person is able to talk to someone that is not allowed to communicate with anyone else about their situation at all. In Section B Confidentiality and Privacy, explains this and also let you know when and who you can share information with if need be. For example, some that does not have capacity like a minor or the elderly. Another subject that the ACA code of ethics touches on is having any type of relationship with your clients besides a counselor client relationship this is stated in Section A.a.5 in states that there cannot be any kind of romantic or sexual relations between client and counselor not even in an online type counseling environment.
