Events Abofdgdggeeeiriginal Fall Showcase (Sept) approximately 1 month planning The fall showcase is a wonderful way to display Aboriginal Pride here at the U of M. Some of tasks for this event are. Book Performers (Ian Hotomani, Sagkeeng Elders of the Past Memorial and Alex Ailishuk) 1. Book Emcee (Carl Stone is a good place to start) MIgizii Agamik 2. Book Space a good place to start would be talking to the events coordinator at UMSU (It has been traditional done in the University Centre fire-pit lounge). UMSU offices 3. Food is a good way to get people involved. • Bannock, Pickerel, Deer and Moose (Neechi Foods can make Bannock) 5. Also, it is a good chance to recruit students into the association (strength in numbers). 1. Book Space (Migizii Agamik or Graduate Student Lounge on 2nd floor University Centre), will need to go to Conference and Catering to Book Space outside Graduate Student Lounge. Also “Booking Outdoor Space” through Conference and Catering. 2. Book BBQ’s from either Aboriginal Student Centre or UMSU. (Aboriginal Student Centre is usually free with refilling propane). 3. Get ‘catering waiver’ for Conference and Catering signed by someone who has a food handler certificate (Degrees is a good place to start). 4. Buy food for BBQ • Burgers, hotdogs, buns, condiments, recyclable plates, cutlery, vegetarian selection and drinks. 5. Approach Native Studies to help out, the staff there usually send a professor to help flip burgers. 6. To book the space at the Graduate Student Association located at 221 University Centre talk to the receptionist. The receptionist can book the space. This task can be done by UMASA council or the coordinator. To book Out Door space there must be a form filled out at Conference and Catering. The form also needs to be signed by the Physical Power Plant, The Dean’s Office, an UMSU Executive, University of Manitoba Administration Office Health and Safety. This job can take up to 2 to 3 weeks. It is because some of offices are quite busy and will need some time before the right authority signs the form. The job itself will take 2 weeks but will take the Coordinator close to 10-15 hours. • To book the BBQ’s talk to Carl Stone. His office is located in the Migizii Agamik. It would be a good idea to do this a couple weeks in advance. This job can be performed by UMASA Council or the Coordinator. It would take an hour or two. • For the “Catering Waiver”, this job would be best done by the Coordinator, would go to Conference and Catering and pick up the form and get Tom manager of Degrees could help with the Food Handlers
