1. What role do values play in how Drexler’s Bar-B-Que interacts with its neighbors and customers? Values get played out in the way in which Drexler’s BBQ “gives back to” the surrounding African-American community. For many years, Drexler’s has sponsored a softball team and a local Boy Scout troop. Youths from the neighborhood have opportunities to go camping and visit a local amusement park because the family believes that a business is obligated to aggressively seek out opportunities to help others. 2. Is Drexler’s an effective organization? Why? Yes, Drexler’s BBQ is an effective organization. Small businesses like Drexler’s BBQ are presumed to be more flexible, having the ability to react more quickly to changes when they occur, but the risk is also greater for them than for large organizations. That’s exactly what Drexler’s BBQ did. It’s a family owned business, and there are only two or three other full-time employees, although sometimes during the summer a couple of nephews work part-time. This explains how effectively Drexler’s BBQ was run. 3. Apply the systems model to illustrate how Drexler’s Bar-B-Que operates within its environment. There are four basic criteria of the systems model and Drexler’s BBQ operated using those criteria as the following; Quality – Drexler’s food and service provided to customer had been steady. Productivity – James Drexler prepared the meat preparation, Eunice Scott handles the salad, coleslaw, and bread. Virginia Scott manages the customer orders and the cash register. Efficiency – Drexler’s BBQ had only two or three employees. Satisfaction – Customers were happy, and the business had grown and expanded to embrace more
