Zack Barker British and World Literature February 25, 2013 My Hero According to an unknown author, “A hero is not just some character with superpowers pulled out of a comic book, but a person that someone can look up to; a person that someone can inspire you.” However, people come to the conclusion that we derive ourselves through life by taking it one step at a time, but the truth is our a gives us that extra something special when looking up to them. I believe my heroes are the members of the armed forces because they make sacrifices everyday and have the courage to fight and keep our country safe. A true hero can encounter numerous hardships that can affect them emotionally and physically. For example, when a solider is about to embark overseas, he or she will face numerous hardships that will affect their life such as losing a limb on their body or the possibility of never seeing their family and children again as they are fighting for our country. When a solider gives up their own family, it shows me that they truly care about are country. People including myself have to start appreciating what they do for us because the United States would not be the way it is without them. A hero also gives up their life to protect the United States from our enemies. For example, when the United States was at war, numerous soldiers were deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan to fight for our protection. This shows me that a solider is not just your average person, but a true hero because they gave up their life to help keep our country safe from the unknown. According to Webster’s Dictionary, bravery is the quality of the mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, and fear.
