“A Rebel with a Cause” Act I: Scene I Song: Amazing Grace While song is playing: Piano behind curtain, black backdrop, multimedia pictures of slaves working in the field projected. Pictures transform. Lights dim, there is a figure in the back NARRATOR: …and on the eighth day, God created ROCK-n-ROLL! JOHNNY: WA BABA LU BOP A LOP BAM BOOM! Song: Tutti Fruitti As song begins, curtain opens revealing piano, chorus in 50s wardrobes, dancing and singing along. Multimedia pictures projected of Motown, gospel influence. During song, chorus is still dancing; they make their way to their positions at café tables. Johnny Rockstar? You’re up next! (Exits stage right) JOHNNY: (takes last sip of drink, heads up to the “stage”) Let’s do this! Song: Jailhouse Rock/Hound Dog As song ends, crowd around Johnny goes crazy, he throws his guitar offstage right, then exits right to meet screaming fans and groupies. FAN #1: You rock, Johnny! FAN #2: I love you, Johnny! REPORTER: Johnny, excuse me, Johnny Rockstar? Is it true that your music is just something your boss made you put on for show? JOHNNY: (takes Reporter’s microphone, smiles at the crowd) Rules, shmules! I live on my own terms! Ain’t nobody gonna tell me what to do! FANS: (interrupting) That’s right Johnny! You tell ‘em JR! Forget about them! They don’t need you! JOHNNY: Come on, ladies! (Johnny puts arms around fans and starts to exit stage right) I’m out of here! Anyone else want to go party?! Johnny exits stage right and a group forms around him. Camera flashes are seen offstage right, paparazzi are waiting for him outside the café. NARRATOR: This was just the beginning of a difficult journey Johnny Rockstar would take. In his younger years, his light was never given a chance to shine because of the poor choices he would make.
