ORIGINAL SONG WRITER The original writer of “Dancing in the moonlight”, Sherman Kelly, was born in 1943 in Washington DC but grew up with his 4 siblings and parents outside Boston where his father was the professor of city planning. Everyone in his family played piano, some played other instruments too so his up bringing was full of music. He began classical piano at the age of 6, but preferred other endeavors so stopped after a few years. He was taught blues and boogie woogie by a friend at the age of 15 and carried on to play by ear. During high school and university he played keyboard in rock and roll bands. His first band was called “Oz & Ends” in Ithaca NY. In 1967 he graduated Cornell University with a BA in psychology and English, he also studied at Alliance Francaise in Paris, and at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland. He also attended the New School for Social Research in New York City. He played in a couple of bands in the Carribean for two years in 1967. On a trip to St.Croix in 1969, he was attacked and beaten by a gang who also killed 3 American tourists. This attack caused him multiple facial fractures and wounds. Whilst in recovery, he wrote “Dancing in the moonlight” in which he envisioned an alternate reality, a dream of a peaceful and joyful celebration of life. This original version of “Dancing in the moonlight” was on the Boffolongo album “Beyond your head”, released in 1970. TOPLOADER Toploader formed in 1997 in Eastbourne. The bands career started by doing gigs in small venues with Muse and Coldplay. The soon led onto bigger gigs and became the last British band to play the original Wembley Stadium.
