$100 Lap Top Computers Case Study Team 4 Bishoy Haleem Vafa Husain Sean Jackson MKTG 445 $100 Laptop Computer Case Study Negroponte had the desire to develop an inexpensive personal computer with Wi-Fi connection. What makes his idea significant and unique was his desire to make it affordable for people in developing countries. He claimed that this would help the less fortunate families in less fortunate countries to be connected to the world with internet access. This would most importantly help these kids get an education that incorporates the technology that is used in educating children in other parts of the world. He and his wife had seen the importance of technology in a village in Cambodia in which they had established. They saw that it had improved their self esteem and increased their willingness to learn. Aside from selling the laptops, promoting technology and education was their biggest goal, and ultimately their accomplishment. In our opinion, what Negroponte has done was very necessary in order to get these less fortunate students a chance to actually learn in a way that the rest of the world is learning. The article also describes other factors affecting these children that affect their ability to receive an education. These included: caring for their elderly parents or grandparents, working, or marriage and teen pregnancy. All of these factors are important, but if someone is given the opportunity to become educated and learn, they will not give up that opportunity unless one or more of the above factors came into place. OLPC is very dedicated and hard working in order to link children in underdeveloped countries to the technological world outside of their schools.
