One, for instance, is when Zeus complains about the mortal beings to the other gods. He says how “reckless”(78) they are and how they always put blame on the gods. He said, “How shameless--the way these mortals blame the gods. From us alone, they say, come all their miseries, yes, but they themselves, with their own reckless ways, compound their pains beyond their proper share.”(78) Zeus clearly explains his whole hearted resentment towards the mortal beings that blame them. Although it seems that way, he is clearly thrilled that the mortals still think of them everyday.
The mixed are those myths that explain the very nature of the world, and what the gods have to do with the way the world works. Polytheism was wide spread in the ancient world. The Egyptians had a highly developed belief system that was based on multiple gods. The ancient Greeks also had an intricate system of myths based on multiple deities. 1. Describe Prometheus’ role in humanity’s primal history according to Hesiod. Prometheus was a son of titans and surpassed all in scheming and trickery and had several roles in humanity’s primal history. According to Hesiod, the actions of Prometheus explained the existence for ritualistic sacrifices. This is seen at Mecone where Prometheus’ trick brought wrath at him and humans.
First of all, I am going to state how Victor resembles more of a monster than the creation itself. Victor only thought so much of himself and what he wanted to achieve that he really did not analyze completely what he was doing or what consequences this might have had. At the same time that these actions represent his selfishness and egocentrism, it evokes his madness. Victor became so obsessed with his ability to play God that he became completely detached from all his loved ones and humanity. All of this,
Gilgamesh is described as an out of control King of Uruk in mythology. Gilgamesh was certain that he was going to somehow become immortal as a ruler who did not seem to care what the outcome of his recklessness led to. Those under the rule of Gilgamesh prayed to the gods for someone to wrangle is power and so Enkidu was created and sent to tame Gilgamesh. While Enkidu was sent by the gods, he was not the most civilized of created figures. Gilgamesh sends prostitutes to have sex with Enkidu to make him more civilized.
Poseidon is Polyphemus' dad and after Odysseus blinds his son, he develops a passionate hate for Odysseus, which results in a 5-part curse being placed on him. This creates realness to the story by showing a father’s reaction towards his child’s wellbeing but also it shows that not everybody was in favour of Odysseus. Zeus, the earth shaker, also plays quite a large role in the story. He is the reason why Odysseus looses all him men in a disastrous storm, leaving Odysseus lonely as the only survivor when he is washed up on Calypso’s island. In my opinion, I think Athene
PANDORA’S BOX There was once a titan by the name Epimetheus (“hindsight”) who was charged with the responsibility to bestow a positive trait on each and every animal on earth. However when it was time to give man a positive trait, there was none left. Prometheus (“foresight”), his brother, felt that because man was superior to all other animals, man deserved a gift no other animal possessed. So Prometheus set forth to steal fire from Zeus and handed it over to man. Zeus was beside himself and enraged, he decided to punish Prometheus and his beloved creation: Mankind.
