How is this divinity portrayed? Describe the divinity’s role within the myth. Ra is ruler of all gods in the myth. Ra is outraged by the mocking of the people and seeks to regain the respect of the people. (Egyptian Myths, 2010) Zeus is portrayed as the ruler of the sky. Zeus gets bored in the myth and tries to find something to do. Although Ra is the father of the gods, he seeks advice and guidance from the other gods. In the myth Ra treated everyone the same with exception to the human race. (Egyptian Myths, 2010) In the myth, Zeus is the ruler of the sky. Zeus had a very bad temper and all the other gods and goddesses feared him with the exception of his wife, Hera whom Zeus was afraid of. (Mr. Donn's Social Studies Site, n.d.) 4. Ra appears to be all powerful in the myth. Ra possesses the power to kill humans with his look. Ra also possesses the power to send his eye in the form of a female goddess to earth to spread bloodshed. The female goddess Hathor then took the form of Sekhemet, a lioness and she continued to kill human kind. (Egyptian Myths, 2010) Zeus appears to be very powerful by controlling the sky and its aspects. He also has the ability to throw his voice and change forms of himself as well as the nymph. Due to this fact each culture has tried to explain events and occurrences that the culture has experienced. Such experiences can include a weather event, the sun rising and setting, fertility, love, etc. Each culture experienced similar events, the similarities in divinities simply relates to similar events. The history of humanity has had thousands of gods. As the cultures die out so do the gods of the time. In today’s society there are a few deities that are worshiped and devoted to. Gods are passed along by groups that believe in them.
