Lisa Wood VIDEO LKW April, 14 2012 WAR DANCE War/Dance is a 2007 American documentary film written and directed by Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine and produced by Shine Globol's Susan MacLaury, a professor at Kean University, and Albie Hecht. It was nominated for the 2008 Academy Award for and received the Emmy Award for Best Documentary and Best Cinematography in 2010 . This film was made to show the world the lives of the Acholi Tribe from Northern Uganda. The film takes place in the War Zone Displacement Camp in Potongo Uganda. The families and children in this story show a life of strength and courage, and through music and dance anything is possible. These families have lost everything parents, sisters, and brothers and their homes, through the brutality of the rebels which call themselves The Lord’s Resistance Army. But one thing they couldn’t take away from the Acholi Tribe was their strength and courage. The War Dance tells the story from the eyes of three very brave children (Nancy, Dominick and Rose). Three Children who have seen and experienced more than most could ever live through, and through their music and dance these children show the world anything is possible. Over the last year all 20,000 schools in Uganda have been competing for the right to represent their tribe at the National Music Competition. For the first time ever Potongo Primary school will compete to be the national champions. The film begins with children dancing and singing, smiles on their faces. You could have never guessed that these children were tortured and tormented by the rebels. The Acholi Tribe has been brutally tortured for 20 years by the rebel force that calls them The Lord’s Resistance Army. The war has forced nearly 2 million Acholi people into government protected camps.
