One problem that caught my eye was the Spanish Flu pandemic that killed so many during that time. It was a serious health problem because of the fact that we lost a lot of people and there seemed to be no cure in the beginning. 675,000 Americans
Another major physical impact of the Vietnam War on the veterans and their families was Agent Orange (herbicides and insecticides used during the war period). The veterans that were exposed to the poisonous chemicals were known to have symptoms of cancers, tumours, cardiovascular, respiratory and gastro-urinary problems, muscular and nervous system disease, blurred vision, nasal problems, and blisters on the skin. In 1978, a report linked Agent Orange with causing these medical illnesses. However, it was not until 1994 that the Australian government acknowledged that Agent Orange was responsible for these diseases. It also affected the physical health of the children born to the veterans because they were more likely to have abnormalities and brain dysfunctions.
should have used Agent Orange, because it caused many long-term effects to humans. Some birth defects are still occurring due to Agent Orange. Currently, 15,451 people are suffering from the effects of the toxic chemicals. Some conditions due to Agent Orange include: Hodgkin’s disease, multiple Myeloma, non-Hodgekin’s lymphoma, diabetes, Spina bifida, and Cloracne. These illnesses are all occurring in U.S. veterans.
Data published by NHS show that there is high number of measles reported due to 1-16 years old children who missed the vaccinations between 1990s and 2000s. In 2012 the numbers of cases was 2,000. The fears are now concerned on the MMR vaccination, as now there is also a big group of children who did not received their vaccination. NHS urge parents to ensure their children receive the vaccination. This shows that many parents are sceptical to the vaccinations, what might have negative consequences for children.
Statistics show that between 1,200-1,400 children suffer head injuries from abuse in the United States. All it takes is that one time that parent, family members, close friends and or caregiver gets frustrated, then he or she snaps and might cause serve damage to the baby’s life
MEASLES SZT TASK 3 REBEKAH HIGHTOWER A. Measles Measles, what is it? Measles is one of the most highly contagious viral diseases and sadly it can be a fatal disease. Others with potentially heavy exposures included members of U.S. Army Special Forces units who defoliated remote campsites, and members of U.S. Navy river units who cleared base perimeters. Military members who served on Okinawa also claim to have been exposed to the chemical. While in Vietnam, the veterans were told not to worry, and were persuaded the chemical was harmless. After returning home, Vietnam veterans began to suspect their ill health or the instances of their wives having miscarriages or children born with birth defects might
Vietnam War caused a lot of different things including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This is my first topic, symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and the impact on everyday life. According to the American Psychiatric Association, post traumatic stress disorder develops after someone is exposed to an extremely traumatic event and they reacted to the event with intense fear, horror or helplessness. Such traumatic events include: * war * torture * terrorism * a natural disaster (e.g. a bushfire, flood or cyclone) * a major car accident The Intrusive Symptoms include: * Distressing thoughts or images * Nightmares about the event * Feeling or acting as if the traumatic event were recurring
Meth addiction harms the body in a horrific way, the drug is made up of chemicals that can kill a person also leading to the addiction, and in order to get over the drug it’s a continuous battle the person must want it for themself, and have the strength over their own mind they can’t be weak or they will fail and relapse. In the beginning use of Meth there are not many changes in appearance, but within a couple months a person’s whole appearance can be changed. The body tends to get very thin, and for most people their skin starts getting picked at leaving open wounds. The appearance can change so fast that the person may not even be recognizable. Not only does the appearance change so do the mind.
Xxxxx Xxxxx Ms. Xxxxxx Xxxxx HST221-E1 7 April 2009 In Country (1989) Vietnam Myths It’s difficult to have a discussion about the Vietnam War without invoking statistics. The fact that it was our longest military conflict and almost 60,000 Americans died there is common knowledge. The four to six million Vietnamese and Laotian deaths are not as well known. Unfortunately, other bits of common knowledge are erroneous and have even solidified into damaging myths: most American soldiers were addicted to drugs, guilt-ridden about their role in the war, and are a danger to society. In reality, according to Harris, there was and is no difference in drug use between Vietnam Veterans (VV) and civilians, the vast majority are proud of their service (most would even serve again knowing what they know now) and most importantly, VV have for the most part, made a successful transitions back into society and are less likely to be in prison (1980).
